Harris Center Welcomes Masters Of Percussion Zakir Hussain, Eric Harland, Niladri Kumar

Simply stated, Zakir Hussain is one of the greatest musicians of our time. A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have led to historic collaborations with Shakti, which he founded with John McLaughlin and L. Shankar; Planet Drum with Mickey Hart; Sangam with Charles Lloyd and Eric Harland, and recordings and performances with artists as diverse as George Harrison, Yo-Yo Ma, Joe Henderson, Van Morrison, Mark Morris and Pharoah Sanders.

Progressive Theater aims to tell culturally enriched stories that empower people of color, and captivate all audiences with the focus being on the change we want to see in the theater community.

Drew Dollaz Joins Collaborators for Premiere of The Just and The Blind On March 5

Carnegie Hall today announced that street dance pioneer Drew Dollaz will join longtime collaborators spoken word artist Marc Bamuthi Joseph and composer/violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain as they reunite for the world premiere of The Just and the Blind, a pressing and poignant new work commissioned by Carnegie Hall that explores fatherhood, racial profiling, and the justice system, in Zankel Hall on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. The performance will be followed by a post-concert discussion with the artists, hosted by Justus Jones of the Arts for Incarcerated Youth Network (AIYN).

Arts Education at NJPAC offers the best arts summer camp for students ages 10 to 18 where students can immerse themselves in a variety of programs perfecting their skills in performing arts. Gold Coast Int'l. Film Fest Offers Free Screening Of Oscar-Nominated Short Films To Affected Federal Workers

The Gold Coast International Film Festival is offering a respite for federal workers impacted by the prolonged partial government shutdown; free screenings of Oscar-nominated short films in advance of this year's Academy Awards. The screenings, which are open to the general public, will take place on Sunday, February 10 at 6 p.m. in Port Washington, and Wednesday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Great Neck. A select number of tickets will be set aside at each screening for the government workers.

State Theatre New Jersey presents Savion Glover's All FuNKD' Up on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 8pm. Savion Glover's All FuNKD' Up will highlight Glover's mesmerizing interplay of percussive genius. Glover will be appearing along with his six-piece band and company of dancers. Together they will illuminate his original grooves and compositions. Glover will also be doing a lecture/demonstration for select community groups earlier in the day on February 7. Tickets range from $25-$55.

David Berger Jazz Orchestra and Ron Sunshine Celebrate The Great American Songbook at Birdland

Composer, arranger, and conductor, David Berger, is recognized internationally as a leading authority on the music of Duke Ellington and the Swing Era. Conductor and arranger for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra from its inception in 1988 through 1994, Berger has transcribed more than 750 full scores of classic recordings, including more than 500 works by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Several of these transcriptions in addition to a number of original arrangements are featured in last season's Broadway hit, After Midnight.
