After having recently announced a reading series organized by Sarah Schulman and an Associate Artist program, Performance Space New York continues to explore new ways of shaping its organizational structure around the creative desires of artists with Octopus, a new artist-curated series of performances (December 2018-June 2019). Occurring simultaneously but independent from the Spring season's the No Series (January-May 2019) and Schulman's First Mondays: Reading of New Works in Progress (now-May 2019), Octopus gives select artists the autonomy to bring together performers on their radar, working in any number of disciplines, for evening-length programs.

Queer|Art, the New York City-based non-profit, is pleased to announce the judges for the second annual Barbara Hammer Lesbian Experimental Filmmaking Grant: archivist and curator Carmel Curtis, and video artists Cecilia Dougherty and Ayanna U'Dongo.

Performance Space New York announces First Mondays: Readings of New Works in Progress, organized by author Sarah Schulman (Maggie Terry, 2018; Conflict is not Abuse: Overstating Harm, Community Responsibility and the Duty of Repair, 2016). On the first Monday of most months between October 2018 and May 2019, the series will present audiences with an opportunity to gather and hear in-progress works from writers leading the literary avant-garde. First Mondays exemplifies the artistic community-building power in Performance Space New York's appointment of five Associate Artists. Today, the organization announces Sarah Schulman, Emily Johnson, Gillian Walsh, Sarah Ortmeyer, and Angela Dimayuga as the Associate Artists who will actively contribute to programming and administrative decision making in the years to come-honoring Performance Space New York's roots as a space run by the very people experimenting within it.

Casting is complete for the three "developmental productions" featured in Goodman Theatre's 15th annual New Stages Festival-a free celebration of new works by some of the country's finest established and emerging playwrights. These three plays, which are staged in repertory following two weeks of rehearsal, include There's Always the Hudson by Paola Lazaro-Muñoz, directed by Jess McLeod; Felons and Familias by Sandra Delgado, directed by Marcela Muñoz; and Graveyard Shift by Korde Arrington Tuttle, directed by Danya Taymor. Developmental productions are designed by Kevin Depinet (Set), Noel Huntzinger (Costumes for There's Always the Hudson and Graveyard Shift), Birgit Rattenborg Wise (Costumes for Felons and Familias), Jesse Klug (Lights) and Richard Woodbury (Sound).

Queer|Art, the New York City-based non-profit supporting the creative and professional development of LGBTQ artists, is pleased to announce the Fall 2018 season of Queer|Art|Film at IFC Center (323 Sixth Avenue at West 3rd St.), September 17-December 3. Curated by filmmakers Ira Sachs, Adam Baran, and Vanessa Haroutunian, the season brings together an eclectic mix of independent, experimental, and Hollywood cinema, presented by a multigenerational lineup of queer visual artists, poets, composers, and cinema legends. A highlight of the season is a special experimental shorts program on the evening of December 3 (organized with legendary experimental filmmaker Barbara Hammer), which coincides with the announcement of the winner of the 2018 Barbara Hammer Lesbian Experimental Filmmaking Grant. Queer|Art|Mentorship was launched in 2011 to develop an intergenerational and interdisciplinary network of support and shared knowledge for LGBTQ artists. Now beginning its eighth year, the program brings together early-career and advanced-career artists for a year-long exchange across five different fields: Film, Literature, Performance, Visual Art, and Curatorial Practice.

Complete casting has been announced for Charles Busch's return to Theater for the New City (Crystal Field, Executive Artistic Director) in his uproarious new comedy The Confession of Lily Dare, directed by Busch's longtime collaborator Carl Andress (The Tribute Artist, Judith of Bethulia, The Divine Sister).

Performance Space New York (formerly Performance Space 122) presents the East Village Series, its first semi-annual themed series, and the first program curated by the institution's new Executive Artistic Director, Jenny Schlenzka. This presentation of works from some of today's most radical performers and multidisciplinary artists resituates the institution in newly revamped spaces, designed by Deborah Berke Partners, in 122 Community Center (150 First Avenue, at East 9th Street), where Performance Space 122 was founded, and where it operated until it moved out in 2011 for the building renovation. The series contemplates the past, present, and future of the organization and its neighborhood.
