It's been one year since Bryson Battle took center stage as a winner of the 12th annual Jimmy Awards. As a participant from Charlotte, North Carolina's Blumey Awards, Battle took part in the first ever virtual presentation on July 15, 2021, and was awarded Best Performance by an Actor, along with a check for $25,000 to further his education. Tonight (May 17, 2022), Zachary Noah Piser, will step into the of ‘Evan Hansen’ on Broadway in Dear Evan Hansen, the Tony, Grammy and Oliver Award-winning musical. Piser, who has been part of the Dear Evan Hansen family since March 2019 and was most recently the ‘Evan’ alternate on Broadway, becomes the first Asian American actor to play the role full-time.

Dear Evan Hansen has been a long-awaited show for this reviewer and it did not disappoint. The show was inspired by the true story of Benj Pasek, the show's lyricist, who, after a high school classmate died of a drug overdose, witnessed classmates tell false stories of being part of the deceased student's life.

Tonight, May 3, Talia Simone Robinson will become the first Black actor to play Zoe Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway full-time. Previously Zoe/Alana understudy, Robinson succeeds Gabriella Carruba, who played the role until May 1.

As with any massively popular production, you have to wonder if the hype matches the reality. In the case of DEAR EVAN HANSEN, the reality more than exceeds the expectations. This production is full of not only exceptional musical moments but also an enthralling story. It holds you captivated from beginning to end and leaves you with a lingering sense that you just experienced something extraordinary and important.
