Flaubert's masterpiece Madame Bovary is the tragic, yet scintillating story of a woman who longed for a life she could never fully achieve. Emma Bovary desires the illustrious and romantic world she has only read about in books or observed from afar. As her desire grows Emma pursues it, whatever the cost, in an ultimate quest to fulfill her passion. Esteemed playwright, Adrienne Kennedy, a seminal writer of the American avant-garde, takes a fresh and exciting approach in her adaptation transforming this literary classic into a riveting and visionary work for the stage.

The Tempest will run for four performances from Friday, March 3 to Sunday, March 5 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre.

I admit it, melodrama is something of a guilty pleasure of mine. I don't mean 'melodrama' in the way you're thinking, with audiences booing and hissing the mustache-twirling villain as he ties some dewy blonde to the railroad tracks. I mean stories where everything-the characters, the situations, the emotions-are larger than life. It's one of the reasons I enjoy musicals so much; after all, what could be more melodramatic than singing out your feelings at the top of your lungs?

Murray Ross' adaptation of Ghosts distills Henrik Ibsen's three-act play into a brisk, intermission-free 100 minutes. A concession to shorter attention spans? Perhaps, but Ross' primary focus here is maintaining an uninterrupted pace as the events of the play hurtle towards their inevitable tragedy, brought about by a past long-concealed but ultimately inescapable.

Caught somewhere between classical and modern modes, The Liar is a truly entertaining evening.

Portland Center Stage is thrilled to announce that due to sold out houses and increasing demand, Storm Large's world premiere autobiographical musical, Crazy Enough, will extend through June 28th, 2009.

With a three week extension that is already sold out and last night?s pick up of Drammy Awards for Original Music and Musical Actress in a Lead Role, Portland Center Stage is delighted announce a second extension for Crazy Enough, through July 26th, including 2 Late Night Performances at 10pm during Portland Center Stage?s new works festival, JAW, Friday July 24th and Saturday July 25th. The production will take a break June 29th through July 6th, picking back up with performances July 7th through the 26th, with Tuesday through Friday performances at 7:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday matinee performances at 2:00 pm and one Saturday 7:30 performance on July 18th. There will be no Thursday matinees for the added extension weeks. Tickets range from $25.50 to $48.50, with student and under 30 discounts available.
