Last night's Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's ODETTA premiere performance was star studded with guests including Harry Belafonte, Laverne Cox, Jessye Norman, Carmen de Lavallade, Bevy Smith, Suzanne Vega, Ruben Santiago Hudson, Michela Angela Davis, Khalil Kain, Rochelle Aytes, Pastors Michael A Walrond Jr., and Reverend LaKeesha Waldrond attending Matthew Rushing's world premiere. Fittingly, ODETTA, which celebrates the legendary singer known as the "voice of the Civil Rights Movement," premiered on National Human Rights Day. BroadwayWorld has photos from the premiere below!

Casting is complete for Second Stage Theatre presentation of the Atlantic Theater Company's production of Stephen Adly Guirgis' acclaimed play, BETWEEN RIVERSIDE AND CRAZY. Signature Theatre's U.S. Premiere of A PARTICLE OF DREAD(OEDIPUS VARIATIONS) by Sam Shepard, directed by Nancy Meckler opened last night at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues. The production will now play through Sunday, January 4, 2015.

Katori Hall's OUR LADY OF KIBEHO is directed by Michael Greif. Lisa Renee Jordan, David Margolin Lawson and Betsy Heffron have joined the creative team of BIRDS, Marcina Zaccaria's provocative new play which premieres Today, October 17 at 10PM, kicking off the THIS/THAT Festival at the Brick Theater in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) announces this season's Joe A. Callaway Award winners for Direction and Choreography from more than 200 eligible productions in the 2013-2014 New York City theatre season. This year's awards will be presented to John Rando for his direction of The Heir Apparent, produced by Classic Stage Company, and Martha Clarke for her choreography of Cheri, produced by Signature Theatre.

The 2014 recipients of the Horton Foote Prize, named in honor of the legendary writer, to award excellence in American Theater, were just presented last night. Its fifth season takes place tomorrow, September 18 - November 23, 2014 and features 130 productions from around the world in categories including drama, comedy, stand-up, mime, improv, musical, and many more.

Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) has announced the 2014-2015 Committee for the Joe A. Callaway Award, the only peer-given award for excellence in direction and choreography. The Committee, which will oversee the award for the theatre season, is Sue Lawless, William Martin, Barry McNabb, Leslie (Hoban) Blake, Linda Burson, Jonathan Cerullo, Edie Cowan, Clinton Turner Davis, John Going, Richard Hamburger, Bruce Heath, Michael Montel, DJ Salisbury, and Amy Saltz. Sue Lawless will serve as Committee Chair.
