Nuffield Southampton Theatres, Theatr Clwyd and English Touring Theatre today announce casting for their co-production of Tennessee Williams' masterpiece A Streetcar Named Desire. 2017 RTST Sir Peter Hall Director Award winner Chelsea Walker directs Nicole Agada (Woman/Nurse), Will Bliss (Steve), Dexter Flanders (Mitch), Kelly Gough (Blanche), Amber James (Stella), Patrick Knowles (Stanley), Marai Louis (Eunice) and Joe Manjon (Pablo/Doctor/Paperboy). The second production in the inaugural season at NST City, A Streetcar Named Desire opens at Nuffield Southampton Theatres on 28 March with previews from 23 March, running until 31 March. The production will tour the UK with English Touring Theatre ahead of opening at Theatr Clwyd, where it plays from 15 March until 2 June, before returning to NST City.
Richard Twyman, Artistic Director of English Touring Theatre, today announces the 2018-19 season ahead of the company's 25th anniversary in September, with further productions and events to be announced throughout the year. The New York Philharmonic announces Foreign Bodies, a one-night-only multidisciplinary event conducted and hosted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, concluding his tenure as The Marie-Jos e Kravis Composer-in-Residence. The concert, Friday, June 8, 2018, at 8:00 p.m., will feature Esa-Pekka Salonen's Foreign Bodies, accompanied by the World Premiere of a live video installation by Tal Rosner; Dan el Bjarnason's Violin Concerto, with Pekka Kuusisto in his New York Philharmonic debut; and Obsidian Tear, a dance work choreographed by Wayne McGregor performed by members of the Boston Ballet (Philharmonic debut) and set to Mr. Salonen's Nyx and Lachen verlernt. Foreign Bodies will be casual and multi-sensory; drinks and conversation will flow as attendees mingle with the performers, who will give additional impromptu performances throughout the event.
English Touring Theatre today announces that Andrew Hughes joins the company as a Producer, having previously been Assistant to the Artistic Director at the Young Vic Theatre. Andrew began his career as Producing Assistant with Punchdrunk, originally appointed through the inaugural year of the DCMS Jerwood Creative Bursaries programme, and went on to work with international touring company Blind Summit, independent Producer Vicky Graham and multi-disciplinary arts organisation Siobhan Davies Dance. As an independent Producer he most recently developed and produced Ross & Rachel by Olivier nominee James Fritz, which enjoyed a critically acclaimed, award-winning run at the Edinburgh Festival, a New York transfer and two subsequent UK tours.
Director of Nuffield Southampton Theatres, Samuel Hodges, just announced the new season for 2018. This announcement also marked the opening of the brand new NST City, NST's newly built theatre in Southampton's city centre. Nigel Lindsay joins Sarah Ridgeway, who starred in the original production at HighTide Festival 2015, for the London premiere at the Royal Court Theatre from 20 - 29 October and UK Tour. Richard Twyman, the newly appointed Artistic Director of English Touring Theatre, returns to direct Harrogate, which had an acclaimed sell-out run at the influential annual HighTide Festival in Aldeburgh, Suffolk.
