I was in an audience of theatre fans watching an onstage conversation between Frank Rich and Stephen Sondheim and the subject of unauthorized changes made in regional and amateur productions came up. The composer/lyricist mentioned that he had heard of a production of Company that ended with Bobby committing suicide by shooting himself.

The complete cast and creative team have been announced for the first Broadway revival of August Wilson's The Piano Lesson at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. Joining the cast are Nadia Daniel and Jurnee Elizabeth Swan. Rounding out the company are Shirine Babb, Charles Browning, Peter Jay Fernandez, Sharina Martin, Warner Miller, Doron JePaul Mitchell and Kim Sullivan.

Tony-Winning OKLAHOMA! Announces Lottery Tickets at Bass Performance Hall

Performing Arts Fort Worth, the non-profit owner and operator of Bass Performance Hall, announced today that the reimagined revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein's OKLAHOMA!, the 2019 Tony Award winner for Best Revival of a Musical, will host a digital ticket lottery, powered by Broadway Direct, offering fans the chance to purchase a limited number of $31 tickets available per performance.

SISTER MARY IGNATIUS EXPLAINS IT ALL FOR YOU Comes to the Hollywood Fringe Festival

Mmmkay Productions has announced a Hollywood Fringe Festival production of Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You, written by Christopher Durang and directed by Jeramiah Peay. The cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Shayna Gabrielle, Lea Madda, Michael Mullen, Will Potter, Chris Ramirez, and Liam Risinger.

New Line Theatre Announces 31st Season

New Line Theatre, “the bad boy of musical theatre,” has announced its 31st season of adult, alternative musical theatre, including the wild musical comedy SOMETHING ROTTEN, running Sept. 22-Oct. 15, 2022; followed by the electrifying concept musical, NINE, based on Federico Fellini's iconic film 8 1/2, running March 2-25, 2023; and the season closes with one of the great Stephen Sondheim's earliest works, the hilarious farce, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, based on the Roman comedies of Plautus, running June 1-24, 2023.

Up on the Marquee: THE PIANO LESSON

The highly anticipated Broadway revival of August Wilson’s seminal, Pulitzer Prize®-winning drama The Piano Lesson, and the first in more than 30 years since the play’s Main Stem premiere, is the first marquee of the 2022 / 2023 season to hit Broadway at the iconic St. James Theatre, the production’s future home, on the occasion of Mr. Wilson’s 77th Birthday today.

Dallas Premiere of OKLAHOMA! is Coming to the Winspear Opera House

Broadway Dallas and Broadway Across America will present the Dallas premiere of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s OKLAHOMA! at the Winspear Opera House from May 31 – June 12, 2022 as part of the Germania Insurance Broadway Series presented by Broadway Dallas. 

American Film Institute Awards Honors WEST SIDE STORY, tick, tick...BOOM!, and More
