Now in its ninth year, the programme showcases burgeoning young actors who will join the previously announced Canadian TIFF Rising Stars, Kacey Rohl, Mikhaïl Ahooja, Nahéma Ricci, and Shamier Anderson.
The show exalts black protagonism in a show that narrates and goes through the successes of Brazilian and international Black Music. On the scene, Ícaro Silva plays the commander Icarus, who pilots a spaceship and lands in various corners of the world at different times. It is a theatrical show-based show, a 'documentary play' with playful features such as projections and videomapping, which make the audience travel through time and space. In this musical journey, featuring live music and musical direction by Alexandre Elias, choreographies by Victor Maia, the staging honors names such as Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Tim Maia, Wilson Simonal, Beyonce and James Brown.

As a theatre fan, it is rare to watch a musical that I have never listened to before. But when such an occasion presents itself, I jump at the opportunity because there is no better way to experience a show for the first time than to see it professionally.
Let me lead by saying I absolutely love The Little Mermaid and Cirque Du Soleil, so going into the theatre, my expectations were extremely high for the perfect romantic story of man and mermaid at New Tampa Players. And visionary director Derek Baxter and a stellar huge cast of all ages and abilities did NOT disappoint. Using the magical talents of Jeremy Dorsey, Hippie Griswold, Becki Mallett, and Will Rickard, aerial artists from Shinobi School on ropes, fabric, and a lira hoop, this version of the fairytale was fresh, innovative, and never boring.
