BWW Review: The Horrific Beauty of MISS SAIGON Returns to Nashville's Tennessee Performing Arts Center

Compellingly dramatic and featuring an exquisitely emphatic score performed by a dazzling cadre of triple-threat actors and a 15-person orchestra, Miss Saigon once again lands at Nashville's Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall this week for an eight-performance run that will almost certainly stand out among the very best of productions to play Music City during the tenure of departing CEO Kathleen O'Brien. With heart-stopping performances by its trio of stars – Red Concepcion as The Engineer, Emily Bautista as Kim and Anthony Festa as Chris are superb – who are ably supported by a huge company of equally impressive performers, Miss Saigon is at once one of musical theater's most stunning examples, while remaining an enigma among audiences yet to experience its power in person.

BWW Review: The U.S. Tour of MISS SAIGON Breathes New Life Into a Classic Musical

Just until this Sunday, March 17th, you can catch well-known Broadway musical Miss Saigon at Wharton Center for the Performing Arts in East Lansing. Inspired heavily by Giacomo Puccini's opera entitled Madama Butterfly, Miss Saigon first played on Broadway from 1991 until 2001 and has had several worldwide productions ever since, including a 2017 Broadway revival. Though this show has often been met with controversy throughout its history, the U.S. national tour currently hitting East Lansing does its best to portray the Vietnam War as honestly as possible.

BWW Review: MISS SAIGON at Rochester Broadway Theatre League

The RBTL continues its 2018-2019 season with one of Broadway's most transporting musicals, equal parts soaring and beautiful and devastatingly sad. Miss Saigon has been wowing audiences for over three decades, and it's here to wow Rochesterians for just four more days.

BWW Interview: Red Concepción of MISS SAIGON Talks Love and Survival in the Midst of War

Regardless of whether or not you're a fan of musicals, you've probably heard of Miss Saigon. This world-famous Broadway classic is coming to East Lansing's Wharton Center for the Performing Arts for just one week from March 12th through 17th. Featuring music and a book from Les Miserables playwrights Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg, as well as additional lyrics from Richard Maltby, Jr., Miss Saigon is a story of love and survival towards the end of the Vietnam War. After opening on the West End in 1989, Miss Saigon played to packed houses on Broadway from April 11, 1991 to January 28, 2001. Before the U.S. national tour makes its way to Wharton Center, BroadwayWorld Detroit had a chance to interview Red Concepcion, who plays the Engineer in this production. You can read our interview below.

BWW Review: MISS SAIGON at Shea's Buffalo Theatre

Buffalo audiences are in for a rare treat. The Broadway revival of the hit musical MISS SAIGON soared into town last night in what can only be described as a spectacular evening of theatre. First seen on Broadway in 1991 at the height of the megamusical phenomenon, MISS SAIGON continues to resonate with age. Those familiar with Puccini's opera MADAMA BUTTERFLY will not be disappointed in the updating of the story by composer Claude-Michel Schonberg and lyricists Richard Maltby and Alain Boubil.

BWW Review: MISS SAIGON, Bristol Hippodrome

As one of the final so called mega-musicals of the 1980s, Miss Saigon could be forgiven if it felt a little dated by 2018. Thankfully, there's not one bit of tiredness about this re-booted version, originally seen in London in 2014 for its 25th Anniversary.
