Sideshow Theatre Company Announces 2016/17 The Freshness Initiative Playwrights & New Company Members

As it embarks on its 10th Anniversary Season, Sideshow Theatre Company is pleased to announce the playwrights for "The Freshness Initiative," the company's commissioning and new play development program, now in its third year. The 2016/17 season will feature public readings of brand new plays by J. Nicole Brooks, Selina Fillinger and Isaac Gomez. The readings will take place at Victory Gardens Theater during May, June and July of 2017. Two of the world premiere productions featured in Sideshow's 2016/17 Season were developed through "The Freshness Initiative," Philip Dawkins' The Happiest Place on Earth and Calamity West's Give It All Back.

Grippo Stage Co.'s THE BEN HECHT SHOW Premieres at Piven Theatre Today

Based on Ben Hecht's books A Guide For the Bedevilled and A Child Of the Century, in which Hecht confronts his own identity as an American Jew in the wake of the Nazi Holocaust, THE BEN HECHT SHOW begins today, June 10 and continues through July 17, 2016 at Piven Theatre at Noyes Cultural Center, 927 Noyes St. in Evanston. Tickets are currently available at grippostagecompany.com. The press opening is Tuesday, June 14 at 8 pm.

Sundance Institute Sets Projects for Screenwriters Lab, Documentary Edit and Story Labs & New Theatre-Makers Residency

Sundance Institute has selected 25 projects to participate in its Screenwriters Lab, Documentary Edit and Story Labs and new Theatre-Makers Residency, which will take place concurrently this summer in the mountains of the Sundance Resort in Utah. The confluence of these three artist development programs will provide Fellows the unprecedented opportunity to experience portions of the other Labs and will support a cross-pollination of creativity and personal expression across different storytelling forms.

Theatre School at DePaul University to Present THE MISANTHROPE

The Theatre School at DePaul University is pleased to present The Misanthrope by Moliere, translated by Richard Wilbur, and directed by Brian Balcom (MFA Directing, Class of 2016) on the Fullerton Stage at The Theatre School at DePaul University. The production opens on Friday, April 15, and runs through Sunday, April 24, 2016. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. Previews are on April 13 and 14 at 7:30 PM.

BAADAss Women Festival Kicks Off 3/11

?BAAD! - The Bronx Academy of Arts & Dance forges forward with the 16th annual BAAD!ASS WOMEN FESTIVAL, celebrating the empowerment of women through art, culture and performance.  The festival includes several evenings of dance, theatre, poetry, music and performance. The festival takes place at BAAD!, 2474 Westchester Avenue in the Westchester Square section of the Bronx. Ticket prices vary from free to $20.  Participants can take advantage of the Five for $5 special (you and four 'girlfriends' make a group of five and pay only $5 each with a prior reservation.)  BAAD! offers discounts to BAADGE cardholders, BCA cardholders and NALAC members, and free admission to residents of 10474 and 10461 zip codes. Ticket offers cannot be combined.

THE BLUEST EYE Continues Through March 13 at Pittsburgh Playhouse

Point Park University's Conservatory Theatre Company continues its 2015-2016 season with THE BLUEST EYE, the heart wrenching story of a young girl named Pecola growing up in the 1940s who wishes to be anyone other than herself because of the difficulty and hardship she faces in her daily life.

CHICAGO – Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Artistic Director Glenn Edgerton, and its Youth, Education and Community Programs department, under the leadership of Kathryn Humphreys, are pleased to offer a professional development opportunity this June introducing attendees to its Adaptive Dance Programs, created for those with Parkinson's disease and young people on the autism spectrum.
