The Acting Company presents a one-night-only benefit reading of The Night of the Iguana, Tennessee Williams' feverishly poetic 1961 drama, at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (68th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues), on Monday, June 11. Children of Bellevue's 22nd Annual "Toast to the Children" hosted by Top Chef's Tom Colicchio, takes place on Tuesday, April 24 at riverpark (450 E. 29th Street at First Avenue). Academy Award nominee Uma Thurman will be honored as a Children Champion for her past volunteer work with the organization. The Actors Fund, the national human services organization for everyone in performing arts and entertainment, will hold its Annual Gala on Monday, May 14, 2018. The evening will celebrate Academy Award-winning actor and filmmaker Warren Beatty, Tony Award-winning Broadway and film director Kenny Leon, currently director of Children of a Lesser God on Broadway, two-time Tony Award-winning actress, singer and dancer Chita Rivera, and Golden Globe-winning, Academy Award and Emmy-nominated actress Uma Thurman. Mr. Beatty, Mr. Leon, Ms. Rivera and Ms. Thurman will be awarded The Actors Fund's Medal of Honor. The event begins with 6 pm cocktails followed by a 7 pm dinner and tribute at the New York Marriott Marquis. The evening will include special tribute performances by guests to be announced.
The Second City announced today that SNL vet Julia Sweeney's one-woman show Julia Sweeney: Older and Wider will move to the theater's e.t.c. stage for a six-week run beginning April 24, 2018. Sweeney has been honing her first-ever stand-up show in front of live audiences since she began a January workshop run in one of Second City's studio theater spaces. The Outre Theatre Company announces the East Coast premiere of Reservoir Dolls, inspired by Quentin Tarantino's film and adapted by Erika Soerensen. This reimagining of the classic 1992 indie film recasts its characters as women, examining how our culture treats violence differently depending on the gender of the perpetrator. Outre's production is also the first time that the production has been directed by a woman, in this case Assistant Artistic Director Shannon Ouellette.
