by Student Blogger: Emily Brooks
- Aug 12, 2021
Several years ago, Dance Lab New York pioneered its Broadway Choreography Intensive – a unique intensive for early-career choreographers to train specifically in theatrical choreography. As longtime fan of DLNY, I was thrilled to be accepted into the intensive myself, and I’m excited to take you into the studio with me.
BWW Review: 2:22 - A GHOST STORY, Noel Coward Theatre
by Cindy Marcolina
- Aug 12, 2021
“Perception is a choice!” Sam concludes in his pedantic and condescending tirade about ghosts and “the unexplainable”. Frustratingly, the remarks of such an insolent, smart, and snobbish man keep ringing true to the logical crowd. It’s quite difficult to stage a properly frightening show in a theatre, and that’s perhaps the reason behind Danny Robins’s brand new play 2:22 - A Ghost Story being referred to as a “supernatural thriller” rather than any other horror-related genre.
BWW Review: STRANGER SINGS! is a Loving (Though Sometimes Flawed) Interpretation
by Student Blogger: Kat Mokrynski
- Aug 12, 2021
Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical tells the story of the beloved Netflix show through song and dance, poking fun at all of the 1980s tropes that take place in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, where nothing strange ever happens. For those unfamiliar with Stranger Things, the first season focuses on a group of nerdy boys searching for their friend, Will, who has gone missing. With a small cast of 9 and very little set pieces, the show takes a minimalist approach and focuses on the characters themselves, with each being parodied as a stereotype from the television show.
Student Blog: Industry Expectations: Why a College Senior is Scared to Work
by Student Blogger: Emily Ownby
- Aug 11, 2021
Adulthood is coming into focus, and for a life in professional musical theatre, there are some sacrifices I’m not sure I’m ready to make. I want to build my own rule book, and be authentic to myself, but how? Everything is so competitive, it seems impossible to get work if you're not the perfect blank and malleable chess piece that producers can use. The logical part of my brain says 'Just be true to yourself and the work will follow!' But how do I pay the bills while I wait for the work?
BWW Review: The World Premiere of 1820 THE MUSICAL is Moving and Modern
by Tyler Hinton
- Aug 11, 2021
1820 THE MUSICAL at the Covey Center for the Arts is the world premiere of a moving, modern new musical about Joseph and Emma Smith. With a HAMILTON-inspired physical production and strong musical score mirroring THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (both also recent musicals about 19th-century visionaries), and book reminiscent of the Temple Square visitors center film JOSEPH SMITH: PROPHET OF THE RESTORATION, it tells the oft-repeated story with contemporary sensibilities.

Martin Jarvis and Clare Bloomer Reprise Their Roles in MAGGIE & TED at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre
by Stephi Wild
- Aug 11, 2021
Staged as a radio play, the comedy-drama follows 'Ted' Heath and his hilarious and relentless feud with his successor, Margaret Thatcher. For over 20 years Margaret Thatcher and Edward Heath enthralled and appalled the British public with their profound political disagreements, reinforced by their intense personal dislike for one another. Now Maggie and Ted are back!
MOONMATES Will Be Performed at the Hatbox Theatre This Month
by Stephi Wild
- Aug 9, 2021
“Moonmates” tells the story of two bumbling astronauts working on a decrepit, for-profit lunar base. They must overcome their frustrations with one another in order to complete their two-year contract. Melding slapstick, sitcom, and farce, the play is stuffed with dubious science and plenty of laughs.

by Chloe Rabinowitz

In her haunting new single, 'All This Time Alone,' singer-songwriter Denise Marsa addresses the psychological fallout of the unprecedented experience of the Covid-19 lockdowns. Here, claustrophobia seems to have turned into agoraphobia as we transition away from isolation and back into society.

Student Blog: A Summer of Growth
by Student Blogger: Paige Rosko
- Aug 4, 2021
I believe that my biggest source of growth is from working and managing a kid's theater camp. I've never been a huge fan of children and while working with them this summer has not absolutely changed that, I feel like I understand them much better. The kids were aged 4-15 so I had a huge range of kids to understand, work with, and learn about. Sometimes the kids took a lot of energy out of me, but I enjoyed it.
