Prospect Theater Company Announces Cast of WORLD VIEWS

Prospect Theater Company, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Cara Reichel and Managing Director Melissa Huber, has announced the cast for WORLD VIEWS, a collection of new mini-musicals in concert, the culmination of Prospect's 2017 Musical Theater Lab. WORLD VIEWS, the company's 11th lab performance, will be presented on July 8, 2017 at 8pm at The TimesCenter.

Harlem Repertory Theatre To Revive Harburg & Saidy's JAMAICA

The Harlem Repertory Theatre, under the direction of its Founding Artistic Director Keith Lee Grant, has announced that it will present JAMAICA, Yip Harburg and Fred Saidy,'s powerful story about a Jamaican woman's dream of moving to New York City, July 29th - March 24th at The Tato Laviera Theatre (240 East 123rd Street).

Chinese-American composer Daniel Walker's spellbinding new rock musical 'Qing Cheng/Dark City,' about the refugee experience in China, breaks free at this summer's NY Musical Theatre Festival. A modern fable seen through the eyes of a rootless young girl who finds sanctuary in a dangerous ghetto outside of Hong Kong, 'Qing Cheng/Dark City' is directed by Kirsten Sanderson and produced by Sabrina Zuo.

BWW Review: Gentlemen Prefer Booty in Kirsten Childs' BELLA: AN AMERICAN TALL TALE

The recent Signature Theatre revival of Suzan Lori-Parks' VENUS, based on the true story of Saartjie Baartman, depicted a 19th Century African woman who was subjected to exploitation because of white people's fascination with her prominent posterior.  But the mood is considerably lighter over at Playwrights Horizons these days, where the title character of Kirsten Childs' joyfully old-fashioned, but sneakily subversive new musical, BELLA: AN AMERICAN TALL TALE, is a 19th Century African-American woman who celebrates the attention her queenly derriere receives and uses it as a source of empowerment.
