Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati (ETC) revives one of its most treasured family-friendly holiday musicals CINDERELLA, by local playwright Joseph McDonough with lyrics by David Kisor and music by Fitz Patton, playing December 3, 2015 through January 4, 2016.
Greenway Arts Alliance continues their season of world premieres with FRONT DOOR OPEN, a drama written by veteran playwright Tom Baum, directed by acclaimed theater and television director Asaad Kelada. There will be two preview performances on November 11 and 12 at 8:00 pm with opening night set for Friday, November 13 at 8:00 pm.
I was shocked and then realized I was behind the eight ball when hearing that Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park would open its season with a musical interpretation of The Secret Garden. Shocked because I somehow missed that my beloved girlhood book and movie had been turned into a musical. Albeit this occurred back in 1991, but still I found myself curious as to how the story would translate into this medium. Well I watched the performance of this version and I have mixed thoughts.
The energy and passion emanating from playwright Karen Zacarías is evident immediately upon meeting, and bodes well for a conversation about a genre of storytelling known for its intensity. Zacarías' new play, DESTINY OF DESIRE, having its world premiere at Arena Stage this month, is inspired by, and crafted in the style of a telenovela, a Latin American style of televised series, and one of the first things I wanted Karen to do as we began our talk, was clarify just what was meant by the term “telenovela,” as a storytelling genre.

The brand-new Lexington Theatre Company presents its inaugural production of 42nd Street.
