Productions and plays from Ireland face off against several homegrown New York productions as the 12th annual Origin 1st Irish Theatre Festival hands out its awards at a closing night ceremony at Rosie O'Grady's Manhattan Club, 800 Seventh Avenue, on Monday February 3 at 6:30pm.

 'The 8th', a play written and directed by Seanie Sugrue, Produced by Locked in the Attic and Five OHM Productions opened on January 7th, 2020 and played to a sold-out audience throughout the entire run that will end on January 18, 2020 at The Secret Theatre in L.I.C. 

Laurissa 'Lala' Romain, will originate the role of Melanie Quirke, in Sean Sugrue's dark comedy, 'The 8th' that opens tonight to a sold out audience and runs through January 18, 2020 at The Secret Theatre.

Since its founding in 2007, Origin's 1st Irish is the world's only theatre festival dedicated to showcasing the work of contemporary Irish playwrights with a mix of new and acclaimed productions from both sides of the Atlantic.

“Toss It” takes a deeper look at the roles women play in society, as a true anti-romantic comedy, we join the characters where a romantic comedy would typically end with the classic prototypes: charming noncommittal guy and shrewd wary woman who's witty banter (instantly brings to mind a modern day Rosalind Russell & Cary Grant), lead all signs pointing toward the expected outcome. Then everything gets tossed. And gets real. As the men and women of “Toss It” battle for the stakes they set out to get, the story stealthily reveals that the real relationship skirmishes are among the women.

Origin Theatre Company concludes its 15th season of producing the American premieres of plays by emerging European playwrights at its annual spring gala on Monday May 14, at 6:30pm. Hosted by Mutual of America, 320 Park Avenue, the evening features a smorgasbord of international pleasures, including rollicking musical entertainment, and appearances by a colorful cross-section of local and visiting theatre luminaries, business leaders and supporters of the arts.

La MaMa continues its season-long celebration of the life and work of Sam Shepard with WEEKEND WITH SAM, two days of readings and excerpts from Sam Shepard's plays, prose and poetry, directed by Neil La Bute, Lois Weaver, Scott Wittman and Joel Zwick. WEEKEND WITH SAM will be held in The Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St.) February 3 4, 2018. All readings are free and open to the public, but not open for review by critics.
