Joyce DiDonato and David Hyde Pierce to Host Ninth Annual Opera News Awards, 4/13

Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor David Hyde Pierce will take a star turn together when they co-host the Ninth Annual Opera News Awards, set to take place on Sunday, April 13, 2014, in the Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel in New York City. They will be joined by a distinguished line-up of presenters – Luca Pisaroni, Susan Graham, Renata Scotto, Eva Wagner-Pasquier and Francesca Zambello – who will pay tribute to five superb artists who have made an invaluable contribution to the art form: the late director Patrice Chéreau, tenor Juan Diego Flórez, mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig,bass-baritone James Morris, and soprano Nina Stemme. First introduced in 2005, the Opera News Awards gala dinner, which features the hosts and presenters speaking about the awardees and introducing video performance clips, has become one of the most anticipated opera events of the season: an evening of celebration, appreciation, reuniting and celebrity-spotting that is without parallel in the industry.

Park Avenue Armory announced today its 2014 season, an unprecedented mix of presentations and commissions ranging from Kenneth Branagh's highly-anticipated New York stage debut in an immersive and visceral staging of Macbeth; to the London-based trio The xx in a performance that alters the interaction and relationship of the audience with the band; to a visual art commission by artist Douglas Gordon and classical pianist He?le?ne Grimaud that will transform the drill hall into a water-filled environment; to Peter Sellars's staging of St. Matthew Passion which fuses the audience, the orchestra, and soloists into one dramatic, unified assembly.

Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Presents SCHUBERT'S SIXTH, Now thru 11/24

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra presents Schubert's Sixth today, November 22-24, 2013 at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Led by guest conductor Hans Graf, the performances feature the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus, Lee Erickson, director, in Schubert's Mass No. 6 in E-flat major, D. 950 and Mozart's Symphony No. 39 in E-flat major, K. 543. Featured soloists include soprano Joe?lle Harvey, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Rivera, tenor Marc Molomot, tenor Sean Panikkar, and baritone Tyler Duncan.

Julia Bullock to Join Cheyenne Jackson, Carolee Carmello & More for BROADWAY CLASSICS at Carnegie Hall, 11/29

Manhattan Concert Productions has announced the final cast of Broadway Classics at Carnegie Hall, which takes place on Friday November 29, 8PM at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, Carnegie Hall. Previously announced cast members include Phillip Boykin, Carolee Carmello, Cheyenne Jackson, and now esteemed soprano Julia Bullock, star of The Indian Queen, has been added to complete this star-studded line-up.

Lisa McCune and Teddy Tahu Rhodes to Star in Opera Australia's THE KING AND I from April 15

Opera Australia Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini and leading Australian theatre producer John Frost today announced the principal cast for Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic Broadway musical The King and I. In this sexy musical revue, three superb male singers perform an anthology of Bennett's best work - from 'Rags to Riches' to 'Put On a Happy Face' to the title track and many more - celebrating more than six decades of remarkable music in this swingin' walk down memory lane. David Grapes and Todd Olson are co-creators for the production; Todd Olson will also be directing The Rep's production. Original piano and vocal arrangements for I Left My Heart are by Vince di Mura. The cast features singers Eric Jon Mahlum, Andrew McMath and Rob Tucker, all making their Rep debuts, and Richard Carsey, well-known to Milwaukee audiences from his years with Skylight Music Theatre, will accompany them on piano. Carsey is also the Music Director for the production. I Left My Heart: A Salute to the Music of Tony Bennett runs in the Stackner Cabaret from tonight, August 23 - October 20 and opens Sunday, August 25.
