Earlier this week, I spoke with Jennifer Blood from Denver, where she's currently performing with the first national touring company of MATILDA. Jennifer recently appeared on Broadway with the cast of A GENTLEMEN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER, and even served as Sutton Foster's standby as the title character in VIOLET. Not only does she have a local Texas connection, having performed at Casa Manana in their 2008 production of STEEL MAGNOLIAS, she also participated in early workshops of MOONSHINE, the new musical currently running at Dallas Theatre Center.

Katie Anne Clark and Jennifer Ellis are dynamite as the dynamic Sherwood sisters in the Reagle Music Theatre production of WONDERFUL TOWN, an old-fashioned musical comedy with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Clark's comedic flair, Ellis' luminous voice, an ensemble of triple-threat performers, extraordinary choreography, and a 22-piece orchestra are just five of the many good reasons to get yourself to RMT in Waltham before they roll up the sidewalks.

The first one I attended was 5 years ago when Laura Benanti took the stage. Since then, dozens of other brilliant performers have taken to the Terrace stage to share a different, more casual side.
'If music be the food of love, play on.' Even before the invention of the musical comedy (more on that later), William Shakespeare knew the importance of music in telling stories on stage. For our March feature, my colleague Jeff Walker and I thought that instead of marking the Ides of March with songs about murder, betrayal, and fate, we would focus on the synergy between showtunes and Shakespeare.
