The final new production in The Winter Selection at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is a daring masterclass in puppetry from Gyre & Gimble. They have used Max Richter's recompositions of Vivaldi's classic 'Four Seasons' concertos as a basis to tell an original story about 'life, death and renewal', focusing on the human angle rather than nature, taking the audience on an adventure with them. It will play alongside Emma Rice's The Little Matchgirl and Other Happier Tales to close the season.
'Hamlet, Prince of Denmark!' the announcement at Wittenberg's graduation ceremony is barely made that beating drums accompany Hamlet Senior's glass hearse across the stage while Gertrude and Claudius look down woefully.
Frozen is a psychological thriller about a mother whose child goes missing, directed by Jonathan Munby and will play a strictly limited twelve-week season at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from Friday 9 February 2018. Let's see what the critics had to say...

Sex, equality, morality and fidelity are all issues currently in the forefront of many people's minds. As part of a year-long celebration of Oscar Wilde, Dominic Droomgoole's Classic Spring theatre company now turn to Lady Windermere's Fan after A Woman Of No Importance. It is something of a relief to see a play that respects the serious themes of power and society's views of the morality of men and women, but yet remains gloriously funny and light hearted.

'I - will have poetry in my life. And adventure. And love. Love above all,' says Viola de Lesseps, the woman who is destined in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE to win the titular Bard's heart. 'Not the artful postures of love,' she continues, 'but love that overthrows life.' In this most memorable of quotations lies metaphorically, at least the conundrum of translating the 1998 Oscar-winning film to the stage.
'We that are young Shall never see so much, nor live so long...' 2017 has been dubbed a year of Hamlets (too many, even), with Andrew Scott and Tom Hiddleston both taking on the role. If one play has experienced a renaissance, however, it would surely be King Lear. Indeed, it seems the UK stage will 'never see so much' King Lear as it has in the last twelve months (Timothy West, Antony Sher, Glenda Jackson and Kevin McNally all playing the eponymous King/Queen). Jonathan Munby's production at Chichester Festival Theatre is the latest, which sees Ian McKellen revisit the role he played a decade ago at the RSC.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announces The Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC) Hamlet, directed by Simon Godwin with Paapa Essiedu in the title role, for six performances only in the Eisenhower Theater, May 2 6, 2018.

The first revival of a legendary South African jazz opera, as it was called when first performed in 1959, KING KONG is at once a historical document, a contemporary reimagining, a vibrant performance piece and a damning comment on society.
