Tony Award-winning Broadway and television star Sutton Foster headlined Westport Country Playhouse's 2018 Gala on Saturday evening, September 8, performing Broadway standards and contemporary tunes with a trio of musicians.

Tony Award-winning Broadway and television star Sutton Foster will headline Westport Country Playhouse's 2018 Gala on Saturday evening, September 8, performing Broadway standards with a trio of musicians. "Sutton effectively stops whatever Broadway show she's in with her amazing combination of talents in dance, song, and a wicked sense of humor," said Mark Lamos, Westport Country Playhouse artistic director. "She's a dazzling throwback to the great Broadway stars of yesteryear."

ArtsEmerson and the American Repertory Theater present the world premiere of THE WHITE CARD by playwright and poet Claudia Rankine. The groundbreaking piece of theater begins a conversation and challenges us to stay in the room to talk about race in America. It suggests that society cannot progress if whiteness stays invisible and unexamined. At the end of the play, Act II encourages the audience to participate in the dialogue with facilitators guiding the process.

American Repertory Theatre presents the world-premiere of Claudia Rankine's THE WHITE CARD, which opened on February 24th and will run through April 1st. This thought-provoking play examines the concept of whiteness, and questions whether or not it is possible to progress as a society if whiteness remains invisible. After each performance of THE WHITE CARD, the audience is invited to stay for a facilitated discussion.

Fellowship for Performing Arts returns to New York for their third season with the first New York revival of William Nicholson's award-winning play SHADOWLANDS. Groff will replace previously announced Matthew Morrison who is no longer available to perform at this year's Gala due to a scheduling conflict.

Tony, Emmy, and two-time Golden Globe nominee Matthew Morrison will headline Westport Country Playhouse's 2017 fundraising gala on Saturday evening, September 9. New this year will be the Gala's move to Saturday evening instead of Monday night as in past seasons. The Gala's theme, 'Moonlight Over Venice,' is a nod to the Playhouse's autumn production of 'Romeo and Juliet'.

Westport Country Playhouse will present a Script in Hand playreading of the comedy, "The Supporting Cast" by George Furth, on Monday, February 6, at 7 p.m.  The reading will be directed by Anne Keefe, Playhouse associate artist and curator of the playreading series. Tickets are $20 each.

Scandal and blackmail make for laugh-out-loud fun

'What the Butler Saw,' a shameless comedy by Joe Orton, offering a little blackmail and a lot of sexual innuendo, will be staged at Westport Country Playhouse, now through September 10. Director is John Tillinger, who helmed a recent, critically acclaimed production of the show in Los Angeles, as well as earlier productions in London and New York. 'Fat Girls, Interrupted,' a hilarious yet heartfelt new play by two-time Grammy-nominated comedian/author Lisa Lampanelli, will receive a reading on Saturday, March 19, at 8 p.m., at Westport Country Playhouse. Lampanelli has requested that proceeds benefit The Center for Family Justice in Bridgeport, CT.

Today's (February 5) State of the ARTS, heard LIVE each week on WPKN-FM(89.5) in Bridgeport, Connecticut, will include special guests Angela Smith, Patricia Kalember and Erin McCracken.
