THE BELL RINGER Will Hit Aladdin Theater With Its Debut Tour Featuring Former Members Of Trans-Siberian Orchestra

On December 21, 2019, the new holiday rock opera The Bell Ringer is coming to Aladdin Theater. The show features former Trans-Siberian Orchestra members Jody Ashworth and Valerie Vigoda and delivers a powerful and inspiring experience in the early TSO tradition, combing anthemic rock music with poignant storytelling. The Bell Ringer, the debut album from progressive rock band Symphony North, relates a story that builds on the ideas of selflessness and self-worth, employing the talents of musicians hailing from as far as Sweden, Spain, Russia, and Turkey. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Toys for Tots Literacy Program.

Antaeus Theatre Company presents the world premiere of Eight Nights, a story developed in the Antaeus Playwrights Lab that honors the global refugee experience. Written by Jennifer Maisel and directed by Emily Chase, Eight Nights opens at the Kiki & David Gindler Performing Arts Center in Glendale on Nov. 8, where performances continue through Dec. 16. Low-priced previews begin Oct. 31.

The Fire This Time Festival Announces Its 2020 Playwrights In Repertoire

The Fire This Time Festival, the destination for early career and emerging playwrights from the African diaspora, announces its 2020 dates. The 14-day festival, presented in collaboration with FRIGID New York, which annually honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will take place from January 20 to February 2, 2020. This year, seven commissioned dramatists will be presented in repertoire as part of the annual celebration held at the Kraine Theater in the East Village.

Donmar Warehouse Announces Full Casting For TEENAGE DICK

The Donmar Warehouse announces the full cast for Teenage Dick, Mike Lew's darkly comic take on Shakespeare's Richard III, directed by Donmar Artistic Director Michael Longhurst. Joining previously announced cast Daniel Monks and Susan Wokoma are Callum Adams, Alice Hewkin, Siena Kelly and Ruth Madeley.

Zachary James To Make Metropolitan Opera Debut In AKHNATEN

Zachary James, bass, will be making his highly anticipated Metropolitan Opera debut on November 8 in the Met premiere of Philip Glass' Akhnaten. Described as a 'true stage animal' by Opera News, James is an international opera singer known for his 'huge, robust bass' which 'resonates with force' (Bach Track), 'tremendous power and presence' (The Arts Desk, London) and 'intrinsically beautiful', 'cavernous bass' with 'oomph and range' (Opera News). Akhnaten, directed by Phelim McDermott, runs November 8 through December 7. On November 23, the production will be part of the Met's 'Live in HD' movie theater transmission series and will be broadcast to cinemas across the world.

The O'Neill Seeks New Musicals For 2020 Summer Season

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center announced today that it is now accepting submissions for the 2020 National Music Theater Conference. Writers may submit new musicals through the O'Neill's Open Submissions process through Friday, November 1, 2019. 

Noel Gallagher Honored at 2019 BMI London Awards

Broadcast Music, Inc.® (BMI®), the global leader in music rights management, tonight honoured Noel Gallagher with the BMI President's Award at the 2019 BMI London Awards.  Guests including RAYE - who also performed her brand new track, 'Love Me Again' and was recognised with the BMI Impact Award (a brand new award for 2019), Anne-Marie and Niall Horan, attended the awards at London's Savoy Hotel for an evening of celebration for UK and European songwriters, producers and publishers of the most-performed songs of 2019.

Applications Are Now Open For This Year's Judith Barlow Prize

Not-for-profit History Matters/Back to the Future is accepting applications for this year's Judith Barlow Prize now through December 31st. The Annual Judith Barlow Prize is awarded to a student playwright for an exceptional one-act play inspired by the work of an historic female playwright. Annually, the first place student winner of the prize receives a $2,500 award and a reading of their work in New York City, with a $500 award to the participating professor.

BWW Review: MACBETH at WA Opera

a?oeDouble, double, toil and troublea?? has made its way to His Majesty's Theatre, but instead of this famous line being spoken by the usual three witches, it (or an approximation of it) is sung in Italian by eighteen classically trained witches. WA Opera's production of Giuseppe Verdi's Macbeth opened Saturday night, delivering a dark, dense and demanding rendition of Shakespeare's classic play.

Mint Theater Will Present World Premiere Pairing Of CHEKHOV/TOLSTOY: LOVE STORIES

Mint Theater Company Producing Artistic Director Jonathan Bank today announced the World Premiere pairing of Chekhov/Tolstoy: Love Stories, adapted for the stage by Miles Malleson (Conflict, Yours Unfaithfully), directed by Jonathan Bank & Jane Shaw. Performances will begin January 23rd and continue through March 14th only at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). Opening Night is set for February 10th. Cast will be announced shortly.
