In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 32 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2017 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 18 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

The Araca Group and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater are proud to announce NEW SONGS NOW, an unplugged concert series of songs by ten innovative and dynamic songwriters whose work straddles the music and theater genres. NEW SONGS NOW will begin performances on July 27, 2016 at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater (224 Waverly Place, just west of 7th Avenue) in Greenwich Village, and is supported in part by New Neighborhood.

This weekend, July 11th and 12th the event features a reading on the PT Mainstage of two new works: House of Dreams and Into the Wild, and the audience will get a chance to talk about the work with the authors, composers, and creators in special discussions and receptions after the shows.

Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director of Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, announced that applications are open for the fifth summer of retreats for musical theatre writers and are due February 23. Rhinebeck Writers Retreat will host 8 writing teams with 8 individual weeklong residencies in a private home in the countryside near Rhinebeck, New York. The retreats will take place between June 28 and August 30. Applications are due February 23 and the submission fee is $25.
