The Araca Group & Rattlestick to Launch NEW SONGS NOW Concert Series

By:

The Araca Group and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater are proud to announce NEW SONGS NOW, an unplugged concert series of songs by ten innovative and dynamic songwriters whose work straddles the music and theater genres. NEW SONGS NOW will begin performances on July 27, 2016 at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater (224 Waverly Place, just west of 7th Avenue) in Greenwich Village, and is supported in part by New Neighborhood.

The series will include five days of performances, where two different songwriters each night will be sharing songs-in-progress, followed by a talkback with the audience. This informal unplugged summer concert series is the first collaboration between The Araca Group and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.

NEW SONGS NOW will include the following musicians: Eisa Davis (Angela's Mixtape, Passing Strange), Paul Scott Goodman (Bright Lights, Big City, Him & Her, ROOMS), Celisse Henderson (Godspell, Wicked, artist-in-residence at Joe's Pub), Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop, Teeth, Only Children), Ryan Kattner (Man Man, Mister Heavenly), Grace McLean (Sleep No More, Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812), Diana Oh ({my lingerie play}, New Line Cinema's How to Be Single), Niko Tsakalakos (Sundance Institute Composer Fellow, Into the Wild), Max Vernon (The View UpStairs, KPOP!, 30 Million), and Zoe Sarnak (A Lasting Impression).

"New Songs Now will give these ten inventive songwriters the opportunity to test out new material in a low-key fun environment. We believe in creating a space for innovative artists to try out risky new material, and New Songs Now does just that," says Rattlestick's new Artistic Director Daniella Topol. "And The Araca Group is the perfect partner for this experimental and unique endeavor."

THE SCHEDULE FOR NEW SONGS NOW IS AS FOLLOWS:

July 27 - Michael R. Jackson and Niko Tsakalakos

July 28 - Paul Scott Goodman and Celisse Henderson

August 2 - Eisa Davis and Zoe Sarnak

August 3 - Grace McLean and Max Vernon

August 4 - Diana Oh and Ryan Kattner

All shows will begin at 8:00pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door (includes 1 drink ticket). For Tickets call (866) 811-4111 or on the web at ovationtix.com, or call Rattlestick at (212) 627-2556 or at our website at http://www.rattlestick.org/new-songs-now/
