Opera on Tap Presents SMASHED: THE CARRIE NATION STORY at The New York International Fringe Festival, 8/9-15

Brooklyn-based company Opera on Tap will bring the hatchet-wielding icon of the temperance movement, Carrie Nation, to life in its hit production SMASHED: The Carrie Nation Story, which will be presented atThe New York International Fringe Festival this August. Performances will be held at The C.O.W. (21 Clinton Street, between Houston and Stanton) on August 9th at 1:45pm, August 10th at 6:30pm, August 12th at 3pm, August 13th at 7:45pm, and August 15th at 9:30pm. The “hilarious slapstick-style opera” (Feast of Music) by composer James Barry and librettist Timothy Braun will be presented in a fully immersive, all-bar-encompassing production, which Opera on Tap is calling 'Opera of the Ridiculous.'

Michelle Sutherland's EMILY DICKINSON OUTER SPACE! to Play Bushwick Starr, 9/4-9/6

In a three-day marathon performance that is part intergalactic jam session and part haunted house party, Emily Dickinson OUTER SPACE! explores the uncharted dimensions of Dickinson's poetry in search of what it means to be American, wild, and free. A performance event as vast as the cosmos, this is the second installment in The POP Trilogy from award-winning artist collective Theater Plastique (Gertrude Stein SAINTS!). Following a workshop performance at The Fury Factory Festival of Ensemble Theater in San Francisco in July 2014, Emily Dickinson OUTER SPACE returns to her native coast this September at The Bushwick Starr. Over the course of 72 continuous hours, the doors of the theater will remain open for a performance event featuring 88 singers, dancers, and musicians wherein Theater Plastique invites the vastness of Dickinson's poetry to again build a universe within a single room.

Ralph Harris' MANISH BOY Opens 8/9 at FringeNYC

Funny Big Brother Productions presents MANish BOY, written & performed by RALPH HARRIS, as part of the 2014 New York International Fringe Festival/Fringe NYC. Nominated for the NAACP Theater Award for 'Best One Person Play,' MANish BOY is directed by Oz Scott with dramaturgy by Stacey McClain.

Matthew Newton to Direct NO ONE ASKED ME at FringeNYC

NO ONE ASKED ME, a new play inspired by the true stories of undocumented immigrant NYC high school students, will premiere this summer as part of the 18th annual New York International Fringe Festival. Written by Kate Ballen and directed by Matthew Newton, NO ONE ASKED ME is an insider's look at the intimate human struggle behind the current political debate in Congress around the Dream Act.

WildeSide Rep Presents the World Premiere of JUGGALICIOUS at the NY International Fringe Festival

Written by Britton Buttrill and directed by Celine Rosenthal, JUGGALICIOUS is a dark comedy that asks, "What is a Juggalo?" A Juggalo is not just a fan of the Insane Clown Posse. Being a Juggalo means being a part of a family. When Ice Pete, a young Juggalo from Alabama, discovers that his grandmother, Mammy, is in need of a new kidney, he and his friends Fluffy, Hatchett, and Twista take drastic but misguided means to insure her survival, journeying to the Gathering of the Juggalos and ultimately into the heart of the Dark Carnival itself.

2014 Trustus Playwrights' Festival Announces Winner, Premiere Set for 8/21-29

Trustus Theatre's Artistic Director Dewey Scott-Wiley and Literary Manager Sarah Hammond announced on Thursday July 24th that Barbara Blumenthal-Ehrlich's Big City was named the winner of the 2014 Trustus Playwrights' Festival. The script will receive a staged reading at Trustus in Fall 2014, and the fully staged world premiere production will run August 21 - 29, 2015.

Broken Box Mime to Premiere TOPOGRAPHY at The Wild Project, 9/25

Outstanding Ensemble nominee at the 2014 New York Innovative Theatre Awards, Broken Box Mime Theater (BKBX) presents the World premiere of TOPOGRAPHY. Directed by Becky Baumwoll and the Company, previews begin September 25 at The Wild Project. Opening night is slated for Monday, September 29.

BUBBA Begins 8/10 at FringeNYC

Starting August 10, my solo show BUBBA will be taking part in the New York International Fringe Festival. If you've never seen BUBBA before or even if you have, I'd love for you to come and be a part this award winning show. It's my journey to Alabama to find out who my father was and how he died. There are lots of funny, crazy, wacky characters and I play piano and sing songs. There is even a movement piece. Musical Theatre Factory to Present THE SACRED HARP Concert, 7/28

On Monday, July 28 at 8PM Musical Theatre Factory (MTF) will present an acoustic concert of songs from Peter Lerman's new musical play, THE SACRED HARP, about the nephew of a preacher who tries to break free from his Appalachian confines by building an enchanted guitar. The concert, directed by Austin Regan features Van Hughes (American Idiot, 9 to 5, Hairspray) and Christy Altomare (Mamma Mia!, Carrie: the Musical), as well as a full chorus performing traditional Sacred Harp hymns.

LOVENESS, a New Play by Craig 'muMs' Grant, Comes to FringeNYC, 8/10-23

Black Angus Productions Presents BUBBA During NY International Fringe Festival, 8/10 - 8/24

This summer, Black Angus Productions is pleased to present BUBBA, written and performed by Michael Thomas Walker and directed by Melissa Firlit, as part of the 18th Annual New York International Fringe Festival-FringeNYC. MURDER, MARGARET AND ME to Play FringeNYC, 8/9-22

Murder, Margaret and Me will have its North American Premiere as part of the 2014 New York Fringe Festival. Written by award-winning writer Philip Meeks, the play is a one-woman show performed by Janet Prince, who has received universal acclaim for her interpretation of British acting legend Margaret Rutherford. It is helmed by British crime novelist and director Stella Duffy.
