Brooklyn-based company Opera on Tap will bring the hatchet-wielding icon of the temperance movement, Carrie Nation, to life in its hit production SMASHED: The Carrie Nation Story, which will be presented atThe New York International Fringe Festival this August. Performances will be held at The C.O.W. (21 Clinton Street, between Houston and Stanton) on August 9th at 1:45pm, August 10th at 6:30pm, August 12th at 3pm, August 13th at 7:45pm, and August 15th at 9:30pm. The “hilarious slapstick-style opera” (Feast of Music) by composer James Barry and librettist Timothy Braun will be presented in a fully immersive, all-bar-encompassing production, which Opera on Tap is calling 'Opera of the Ridiculous.'
In a three-day marathon performance that is part intergalactic jam session and part haunted house party, Emily Dickinson OUTER SPACE! explores the uncharted dimensions of Dickinson's poetry in search of what it means to be American, wild, and free. A performance event as vast as the cosmos, this is the second installment in The POP Trilogy from award-winning artist collective Theater Plastique (Gertrude Stein SAINTS!). Following a workshop performance at The Fury Factory Festival of Ensemble Theater in San Francisco in July 2014, Emily Dickinson OUTER SPACE returns to her native coast this September at The Bushwick Starr. Over the course of 72 continuous hours, the doors of the theater will remain open for a performance event featuring 88 singers, dancers, and musicians wherein Theater Plastique invites the vastness of Dickinson's poetry to again build a universe within a single room.

When Ice Pete, a young Juggalo from Alabama, discovers that his grandmother, Mammy, is in need of a new kidney, he and his friends Fluffy, Hatchett, and Twista take drastic but misguided means to insure her survival, journeying to the Gathering of the Juggalos and ultimately into the heart of the Dark Carnival itself.

Trustus Theatre's Artistic Director Dewey Scott-Wiley and Literary Manager Sarah Hammond announced on Thursday July 24th that Barbara Blumenthal-Ehrlich's Big City was named the winner of the 2014 Trustus Playwrights' Festival. The script will receive a staged reading at Trustus in Fall 2014, and the fully staged world premiere production will run August 21 - 29, 2015.

Starting August 10, my solo show BUBBA will be taking part in the New York International Fringe Festival. On Monday, July 28 at 8PM Musical Theatre Factory (MTF) will present an acoustic concert of songs from Peter Lerman's new musical play, THE SACRED HARP, about the nephew of a preacher who tries to break free from his Appalachian confines by building an enchanted guitar. The concert, directed by Austin Regan features Van Hughes (American Idiot, 9 to 5, Hairspray) and Christy Altomare (Mamma Mia!, Carrie: the Musical), as well as a full chorus performing traditional Sacred Harp hymns.
