BWW Review: THE FIFTH WAVE from Macha Theatre Works

Like so many others, Macha Theater Works was in their final rehearsals back in March of 2020 when the pandemic shut everything down. Now, almost two years later they are back at West of Lenin and ready to give us this intense look into a “me too” incident with their World Premiere play “The Fifth Wave” by Jenn Ruzumna and Lisa Every. A topic that is, unfortunately, still all too relevant.

The SoCal branch of the storied San Francisco dinner theatre and cabaret featuring the world-famous transgender Ladies of AsiaSFwelcomed back its first paying customers earlier this year. Now, they’re ready to officially announce their full return. The “Ribbon Cutting 2.0” will take place tomorrow – Wednesday, February 9 at 5pm – at 1555 South Palm Canyon Drive.  Palm Springs Mayor Lisa Middleton and representatives from The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce will officiate. Proof of full vaccination is required for all employees, guests and entertainers and masks are required for entry and when guests are not actively eating or drinking.

Harris and Los Angeles-born artist Martine Syms will welcome the audience to this special performance of “Slave Play” with a pre-show address.

Theatre Under The Stars has a storied history in the Houston theatre scene. One of the cornerstones of their theatre community is long-time actor Paul Hope. Hope has the distinction of performing professionally for several decades, in more than 40 productions at Theatre Under the Stars alone.
