HOWARD FISHMAN AND THE BITING FISH BRASS BAND to Launch Jewish Museum's Summernights Series

Howard Fishman and the Biting Fish Brass Band will kick off The Jewish Museum's popular SummerNights series with a July 12 concert beginning at 7:30 pm. The band presents an exuberant blend of jazz, soul, country, blues, gospel and experimental music. This event also includes an open bar with beer and wine, and free ice cream courtesy of Chozen. The Jewish Museum is located at Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street, Manhattan.
Chuck Singleton Named New WFUV General Manager

Chuck Singleton has been named the general manager of WFUV, New York's Rock and Roots station (90.7 FM, www.wfuv.org) licensed to Fordham University. Singleton, currently the station's interim general manager and veteran program director, will hold the permanent position as of July 1, 2012. He assumed the interim post in June 2011.

In April, four-time Grammy nominee violinist Philippe Quint celebrates two milestones - the release of his recording of concertos by Mendelssohn and Bruch, and Beethoven's Romances Nos. 1 and 2, with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Mineria led by Carlos Miguel Prieto (US release date: today, April 24) on the Avanticlassic label, as well as the theatrical opening by International Film Circuit of Downtown Express, a new film Quint stars in from multiple Peabody and Emmy Award-winning director David Grubin, produced by Michael Hausman (Brokeback Mountain, Gangs of New York, Amadeus), and co-starring singer-songwriter Nellie McKay (Quad Cinema in NYC, opening April 20). In addition, Quint will give a concert in New York at Joe's Pub on Monday, April 23 at 7:30pm featuring musical selections from both the album and the film.

Janis Siegel, Laurel Masse, and Lauren Kinhan, who form the singing group JaLaLa, recently wowed a packed Joe's Pub with a tight 75-minute program that was short on patter but long on wonderful harmonic collaboration, reminiscent of the great girl groups from the Boswell Sisters in the 1930 to The Ronettes and The Chiffons in the '60s.
