National Alliance For Musical Theatre Announces Directors & Musical Directors For FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS

National Alliance for Musical Theatre announces the line-up of directors for their 30th Annual FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS, which takes place on Thursday, October 25 and Friday, October 26, 2018 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues). The Festival events will kick off on Monday, October 22 with Thank You, 30!, a gala event to celebrate the 30th Annual Festival.

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (Betsy King Militello, Executive Director) is celebrating its 30th Annual Festival of New Musicals this year, and in recognition of that milestone, NAMT will host a month-long new musicals celebration this September. During New Musicals Month, NAMT will celebrate and honor the groundbreaking work their members do year-round to develop new work.

Winter Park Playhouse Mounts African-American Cabaret Series

The Winter Park Playhouse is collaborating with Winter Park local powerhouse Maria Olivia Bryant and her company Maria Olivia Inspires to present a new quarterly cabaret series titled Expressions: A Celebration of Voices in African-American Music. The first event will premiere September 27, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. and will feature Maria Olivia Bryant and celebrated special guest artists from the African-American community.

Living Over The Rainbow is a new musical based on a true story that made national headlines in 2008 when a young gay teenager, Lawrence King, was murdered by a fellow classmate at his high school in Oxnard, California. The circumstances of his death and the issues brought to light by it have now been made into a heartfelt and inspirational musical about acceptance and finding peace crafted by Roz Esposito.

Exemplary vocalist Natalie Cordone takes the spotlight once again t0 premiere her latest solo cabaret, Baubles, Bangles, and Beads at The Winter Park Playhouse in the theatre's popular Spotlight Cabaret Series September 5 and 6, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Playhouse Musical Director, Christopher Leavy, will accompany on piano.  

Lyric Theatre Receives Grant From Disney To Fund School Program

Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma has been awarded a $120,000 grant from Disney to bring the Disney Musicals in Schools program to Oklahoma City Public Schools.  The program is a free initiative developed by Disney Theatrical Productions to create sustainable theater programs in under-resourced elementary schools.  The grant funds two years of programming; Lyric Theatre will select five area public elementary schools to participate in 2018-19 and another five will be selected for next year.

Cole Porter New Musical Makes World Premiere At Winter Park Playhouse

The Winter Park Playhouse continues its tradition of excellence for producing professional musical theatre with a World Premiere as its season opener - Gigolo: The New Cole Porter Revue.  This exceptional new work was featured in the theatre's inaugural Florida Festival of New Musicals last summer, and now takes the stage for its first fully produced run July 27 - August 19.  Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Thursday and Saturday matinee performances at 2 p.m. and select Friday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
