Roundabout Theatre Company presented its annual 2015 Spring Gala 'There is Nothing Like a Dame' last night, March 2, 2015 in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria (301 Park Avenue, NYC). The evening was a celebration of Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe winner Helen Mirren, who was presented with The Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre. The tribute featured appearances by Jennifer Garner & Alessandro Nivola and performances by Laura Benanti,Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Santino Fontana, Victor Garber, Donna Murphy, Kelli O'Hara, Alessandro Nivola,Laura Osnes and Betsy Wolfe.
As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Award-winning Canadian actress Chilina Kennedy, who made her Broadway debut as 'Mary Magdalene' in Jesus Christ Superstar, has nabbed the title role in Beautiful-The Carole King Musical, the smash hit musical about the early life and career of the legendary and groundbreaking singer/songwriter. Kennedy begins performances on March 7, 2015, succeeding Tony Award-winner Jessie Mueller, who will play her final performance in Beautiful later this week on March 6 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (124 West 43rd Street). Tony-winning composer Jason Robert Brown's much-loved stage musical The Last Five Years gets the big screen treatment in The Last Five Years- a dynamic, achingly romantic new film from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Richard LaGravenese (The Fisher King) and starring Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick (Into the Woods, Pitch Perfect) and Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan (Newsies, 'Smash').
