by Tori Hartshorn - Sep 18, 2018

Today AJ Lambert, granddaughter of Frank Sinatra and daughter of Nancy Sinatra, announces a headlining performance at Brooklyn's C'mon Everybody onNovember 18 (tickets). AJ recently shared a stream of “I Summon You” (Spoon cover) from her forthcoming album, Careful You. AJ Lambert's style and interpretations of both standards and contemporary music alike is truly her own, as displayed on this modern classic. Britt Daniel of Spoon: “If you're gonna cover someone else's song, you'd better be prepared to add something to it that wasn't there before, and it's equally important to find a way to bring your own personality to the performance. Otherwise what's the point — in today's world, the original version is always readily accessible via the chips embedded into the backs of our skulls. Fortunately, AJ's managed to do both with her reworking of 'I Summon You.' It's a trip to hear my song done this way. Thanks, AJ.” She also recently debuted a video for “You and Your Sister” directed by Boshra AlSaadi (TEEN, Janka Nabay).

BWW Review: Natalie Douglas Shares Her Love for Cher in Her Latest TRIBUTES at Birdland
by Troy Frisby - Aug 13, 2018

It's safe to say that Natalie Douglas is a little obsessed with Cher. Throughout TRIBUTES: CHER, the latest in her award-winning TRIBUTES series, Douglas made her way through the icon's life from her early career up to the present, both in song and in story. But the real focus of the July 16 show at Birdland wasn't necessarily in identifying with the woman, the myth, the legend that is Cher. (After all, how can anyone fully relate to someone for whom a phrase as simple as "Hi again" is a meme-able moment?)

The video was shot one sunny afternoon using an old iPhone. AJ explains her relationship with the song: “I've had this in my head since I was a teenager and had a whole different understanding of it back then. I mainly knew the version by This Mortal Coil with Kim Deal singing.”

A GIRL & A GUN Returns To London
by Stephi Wild - Mar 6, 2018

Artist, theatre-maker, film buff and Godard-fan Louise Orwin began to wonder about this, and question whether the media's portrayal of women has moved on in the 50 odd years since he made his claim. She thought about this when watching Beyonce's video for 'Videophone' featuring the singer and Lady Gaga dressed in their scanties bearing multi-coloured guns, and the Springbreakers (US film) scene where two teenage girls lie on a bed surrounded by guns, using them as suggestive props... She began to wonder whether anything had moved on at all.
