NNPN Adds Cleveland Public Theatre & Miracle Theatre Group as New Core Members

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, has added its 28th and 29th Core Members, Cleveland Public Theatre and Miracle Theatre Group (Milagro). The decision was made by the organization's Board of Directors at its Annual Conference on June 12 in Charlotte, NC hosted by Core Member Actor's Theatre of Charlotte.

Chris Weikel Wins NNPN's 2014 Smith Prize Commission

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, proudly announces that the 2014 Smith Prize Commission, which carries an Award of $5,000, has been awarded to Chris Weikel for The Word from Kampala. Awarded annually to a proposal for a play that dramatizes the pressing issues of our times, The Smith Prize is funded by a gift from screenwriter, novelist and playwright Timothy Jay Smith and a number of other socially-conscious donors. The Word from Kampala was conceived in reaction to the recent act of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who signed into law a bill that makes acts of homosexuality punishable by life imprisonment.

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 35th Rolling World Premiere: Steve Yockey's Pluto will receive three productions through the Network's Continued Life of New Plays Fund in the 2013/14 season. Pluto will begin its Rolling World Premiere at Actor's Express (Atlanta, GA, today, November 16 - December 8, 2013), followed by performances at Forum Theatre (Washington, DC, February 20 - March 15, 2014) and Orlando Shakespeare Theatre (Orlando, FL, February 27 - March 23, 2014).

National New Play Network Receives $600,000 Grant from Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

Mellon Foundation for its programs over the next three years. The gift - the largest received by NNPN in its 15-year history - was approved by the Trustees of the Foundation.

NNPN Names Gwydion Suilebhan Project Director of the New Play Exchange

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theatres that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, proudly announces that Gwydion Suilebhan has been hired as the Project Director for NNPN's New Play Exchange, the national database of plays and playwrights that NNPN is currently developing. Suilebhan, a DC-based playwright, theater blogger, and arts and technology consultant, replaces Jason Loewith, who conceived the project during his tenure as Executive Director of NNPN and served as the Project Director during its initial phase.

Wolves will begin its Rolling World Premiere at Actor's Express (Atlanta, GA, November 8 - December 2, 2012), followed by performances at Southern Rep (New Orleans, LA, November 14 - 25, 2012), Stray Cat Theatre (Tempe, AZ, November 30 - December 16, 2012), and Celebration Theatre (Los Angeles, CA, March 8 - May 1, 2013).
