The acclaimed Steppenwolf Ensemble and Board of Trustees will be hosting he Steppenwolf 2023 Gala, an unforgettable evening celebrating 47 years of powerful and thought-provoking storytelling.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is continuing its 47th season with the Chicago premiere of Donnetta Lavinia Grays’ Last Night and the Night Before, a powerful, poetic exploration of what it takes to create a future from a past you long to forget.

 Broadway Black presents The 2nd Annual Antonyo Awards, which honors Black theatre artists during the 2021-2022 season. The live, in-person ceremony will be held on Monday, October 10 at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem (253 West 125th Street). Awards in 29 competitive categories and five honorary categories will be presented along with performances and guest appearances. 

Whether a Broadway freshman or seasoned senior, BroadwayHD viewers can get schooled in theatre classics like The Sound of Music and Romeo and Juliet, to more advanced theatre titles like The Importance of Being Earnest to Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill, and graduate with honors.

Yasen Peyankov’s adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s SEAGULL proves a wry vehicle to showcase the talents of many of his fellow Steppenwolf ensemble members who haven’t graced the stage since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Peyankov’s adaptation is direct, self-aware, and rife with dry (extremely dry) humor. The ennui that pierces SEAGULL is deeply and obviously felt throughout this adaptation of the text. References to Chekhov’s native Russia abound in Peyankov’s script, but the language feels modern and direct.

Nominations for the 2022 Tony Awards were announced this morning, and while a select, talented few will spend the day celebrating their achievements, there are many who (while still great!), didn't get a nomination this year. Check out who else was eligible below.  The Tony Awards Administration Committee met yesterday to confirm the eligibility status of 12 Broadway productions for the 2021-2022 season.  This was the first time the Tony Awards Administration Committee met to decide the eligibility for the 75th Annual Tony Awards. The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.

Carrie Coon reprises her performance as Agnes in Bug. She can also be seen in movie theaters in Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, named the #1 movie in America. Coon, who has been celebrated for her TV roles in The Leftovers and Fargo, joins a new TV series—Julian Fellowes’ highly anticipated The Gilded Age premiering on HBO in January 2022.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot attended the dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting for Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s new Liz and Eric Lefkofsky Arts and Education Center.
