Seattle Rep Fully Funded For New Playwright Program

With excitement and gratitude, Seattle Repertory Theatre today announced that it was granted full funding from the prestigious Elizabeth George Foundation for support of commissions for the work of three writers - Joanna Garner, Lily Houghton, and C.A. Johnson. This grant funds developmental work that will begin this fall 2018 through Seattle Rep's The Other Season. The Foundation's incredible support enables artists at the very beginning stage of their careers to have their work recognized and cultivated by institutions across the nation like Seattle Rep in the hope that these theatres become the artistic homes for the work being created.

Azrieli Music Prizes Gala Concert Soloists Announced

The Azrieli Foundation is pleased to announce the soloists for the Azrieli Music Prizes Gala Concert on October 15, 2018 at 8:00 pm at Maison symphonique de Montréal. The concert features two major works for chamber orchestra by the winners of the 2018 Azrieli Music Prizes (AMP), two biennial $50,000 awards offering opportunities for the creation, performance and celebration of high quality new Jewish Music. The new works will be performed by the McGill Chamber Orchestra (MCO) led by Guest Conductor Yoav Talmi. Tickets are available for pre-sale starting today via the Place des Arts box office at placedesarts.com.

Raks Inferno to Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the bellydancers and fire performers of Raks Inferno are teaming up with singer-songwriter Dawn Xiana Moon to present a celebration of Asian-Americans in the performing arts: The one-night cabaret show will feature live firespinning and bellydance at Uptown Underground on Thursday, May 3 from Chicago-based dancers who have performed all over the world, as well as premiere Moon's latest music video, an original arrangement of a traditional Chinese folk song.

Sebastian Roche is an actor, born in France. He graduated from the prestigious Conservatoire National Superieur d'Art Dramatique, and started his acting career in French theatre, films and television. He is well known for his work on popular American series as well, such as General Hospital, The Originals, Scandal, 24, and Criminal Minds to name a few.

GAME OF THRONES Will Receive a Special BAFTA Awards

According to Variety, the production team behind Game of Thrones will receive the BAFTA special award at this year's ceremony. The award will be accepted by Hannah Murray and John Bradley.

Sundance Institute Names 2018 Theatre Lab Fellows

Sundance Institute announces the slate of theatremakers from the U.S. and Middle East / North Africa who will convene at the Theatre Program's second annual Theatre Lab in Morocco next month. The Lab, which will take place from May 6 - 27 at the Fellah Hotel outside Marrakech, comprises three uninterrupted weeks of consultation, mentorship and workshop performance of new work for the stage. The Theatre Lab alternates locations each season, moving between the Sundance Resort in Utah, and a venue in the Middle East/North African region, as part of a multi-year commitment to international work and a means of facilitating cultural exchange between artists. Led by Sundance Institute Theatre Program Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, teams of creative advisors, actors and dramaturgs will collaborate with writers and directors, independent from commercial or public pressures, as they develop their projects.

Skylight Music Theatre Announces New High School Musical Theatre Summer Workshop

Skylight Music Theatre Artistic Director Ray Jivoff today announced a new Musical Theater Summer Workshop for high school students. The two-week program will be led by Jivoff, Margaret Bridges, Skylight's Education Manager and Ryan Cappleman, Skylight's Resident Education Music Director Mondays through Fridays, July 16 - 27, with a culminating showcase on Friday, July 27. The Summer Workshop will be held in the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, in Milwaukee's Third Ward.

DUNKIRK and BABY DRIVER Among Winners At The 5th Annual Location Managers Guild International Awards

The Location Managers Guild International (LMGI) announced the winners of its 5th Annual Location Managers Guild International Awards (LMGI) tonight. The Motion Picture winners were DUNKIRK (filmed at the French location of the real evacuation and Malo-les-Bains) and BABY DRIVER (shot on locations throughout Atlanta). The Television Series winners were GAME OF THRONES (filmed in Northern Ireland, Croatia, Morocco, Malta and other locations) and OZARK (shot in seven areas in Atlanta).

Court Theatre, under the continuing leadership of Charles Newell, Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director, continues its 2017/18 season with Guess Who's Coming to Dinner by Todd Kreidler (based on the screenplay by William Rose), directed by Marti Lyons with Associate Director Wardell Julius Clark. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner runs March 15 - April 15, 2018 at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Ave. The press opening is Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 8:00pm.

Belly dance's roots in Eastern cultures, North African cultures in particular, is undeniable. Black and Brown dancers fill the scenes of ancient Egyptian wall paintings and of dance history gems such as Dr. Magda Saleh's 1975 documentary “Egypt Dances.” So why is it so hard to find Black and Brown dancers making a name and a living for themselves in the modern belly dance scene?

Charley Crockett's LIL' GIRL'S NAME Music Video Premieres

The official video for Charley Crockett's new single, “Lil' Girl's Name” recently premiered at Clash Music, who praises, “…it's Americana from the old school, with his yelpin' voice set against twangin' guitars and lyrics that reach towards the universal.” Watch/share HERE. Shot while on tour in London at Texas Joe's BBQ, the video was co-directed by Ray Lewis and Texas Joe himself and features Crockett with his touring band.
