On October 16, Francisco Hernandez Jr. went directly from school to the subway and spent the next 11 days riding from borough to borough with nothing but a metrocard, $10, and a schoolbag. Hernandez, a thirteen year-old who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism that can lead to eccentric behavior and isolation), had gotten in trouble at school and was afraid to go home for fear of being punished. After an 11 day search involving the boy's parents, the New York City transit authority, police and even the Mexican Consulate, Hernandez was found at the Coney Island station stop by a transit police officer.
Last night, December 2, New York City residents and tourists enjoyed the 12th annual 'Christmas in Rockefeller Center,' featuring the lighting of the world's most famous Christmas tree, and star-studded talent performances. Co-hosted by NBC stars Jane Krakowski ('30 Rock') and Zachary Levi ('Chuck') and broadcast in high definition on NBC at 8pm EST, the star-studded tree lighting celebration will featured stars such as Michael Buble and Aretha Franklin, with a special appearance by Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The opening night of Circumcise Me, a new comedy written by and starring Yisrael Campbell celebrated opening on November 18th. Directed bySam Gold (Circle Mirror Transformation, Jollyship The Whiz Bang), Circumcise Me began previews Off-Broadway at The Bleecker Street Theater (45 Bleecker Street just East of Lafayette Street) on November 1st. The show is produced by Evelyn McGee Colbert and Eva Price for Maximum Entertainment Productions.
On Friday, November 13th at 11AM, the cast of the hit Broadway musical ROCK OF AGES joined with the VH1 Save The Music Foundation to celebrate the show's support of music education in our nation's schools. This past spring, ROCK OF AGES donated $30,000 to the Foundation through a month-long ticket promotion, which enabled the VH1 Save The Music Foundation to grant a full set of new musical instruments to jumpstart the music education program at PS/IS 111 this school year.
