BWW Review: SENSE & SENSIBILITY at IRISH CLASSICAL THEATRE

Everything old is new again. But who would think the new century would have 19th Century literature resurfacing in the form of theatrical plays. This season Buffalo has seen Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' characters in the new play MISS BENNETT: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY at Shea's 710 Theatre. But a good story is a good story. So in re-examining the age old hunt for an eligible bachelor we now bring to the stage Austen's SENSE & SENSIBILITY, that notable work that explores the issues of class, courting, and attaining the perfect husband. With some updating of the era and costumes, this timeless tale could allow Austen's often melodramatic story to play out as a 2019 romantic comedy feature film.

BWW Review: MISS BENNET: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY at The Classic Theatre Of San Antonio

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.' It is with this line that begins Jane Austen's most beloved masterpiece, Pride and Prejudice. A tale of five sisters and their journey of finding love, Austen's novel sincerely and humorously immerses readers into the social expectations of 17th century England. MISS BENNET: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY is set in 1815, two years after the events of the novel takes place. The Bennet sisters gather for the holidays to reconnect and celebrate at Mr. and Mrs. Darcy's grand estate. However, this time it is the bookish middle sister, Mary, who takes center stage.

BWW Review: THE UNEXPECTED GUEST - A Classic Whodunit at the Ottawa Little Theatre

The Unexpected Guest is based on a play written by Dame Agatha Christie, first staged in London in 1958. The show begins on a foggy night, when Michael Starkwedder (Jesse Lalonde) comes to a home looking for shelter and finds the body of Richard Warwick crumpled over his wheelchair with Laura Warwick (Dylan Barnabe), Richard's wife, holding a gun. When Laura admits to the murder, Starkwedder helps the pretty widow concoct a scheme to save her from the hangman's noose. But, of course, all may not be as it seems in a Christie play. Is Laura telling the truth or is she covering up for someone? We are soon introduced to other members of the Warwick household, each of whom had a possible motive to send the despicable Richard Warwick to an early grave.
