Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company continues their digital 2020-2021 season with the video release of THE DROWNING GIRLS by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson, and Daniela Vlaskalic.

DARK MATTER is a complex show that requires the audience make connections for themselves. It is challenging theatre presented by passionate artists who find ways to keep it light enough to be entertaining.

Closing out a six-year tenure in Spring Street Studios, Mildred's Umbrella (MU) is reviving a fan favorite from its days at Midtown Arts Center with DARK MATTER, a collection of gothic shorts by Don Nigro. These ten short pieces, speak to MU's unique aesthetic of dark and quirky comedy and feature a stellar cast of local talent.

On July 27, Mildred's Umbrella Theatre Company is set to bring a captivating new play, IN A WORD, written by Lauren Yee, to their stage. Premiered to glowing reviews in Yee's hometown of San Francisco, IN A WORD will continue to gain momentum in the Houston premiere.

For the ninth year running, Mildred's Umbrella Theatre Company (MU) will produce two weekends of new works at the annual Museum of Dysfunction short play festival. The festival has become a staple of the summer theatre calendar featuring local talent and plays that probe the dark and funny edges of the everyday. Nineteen short plays were selected from over 100 entries by emerging and established writers nationwide, with nine spots held exclusively for high school and college students as a way to encourage their craft and build their portfolio. The festival will run over two consecutive weekends: June 29-July 1 and July 6-8, 2017 at Studio 101 in Spring Street Studios, located minutes from downtown Houston in Historic First Ward.

Featuring three Houston premieres by women playwrights and a returning collection of gothic shorts, Mildred's Umbrella Theatre Company's 2017-2018 season promises to bring something for everyone to its stage.

Will Eno, who is currently enjoying his Broadway debut with THE REALISTIC JONESES at the Lyceum Theatre, won the 2010 Horton Foote Prize for Promising New American Play with his darkly comedic musings on the lives we lead between birth and death in his play MIDDLETOWN. With a solid Regional Premiere, The Catastrophic Theatre is gifting Houston audiences with a chance to experience the wry, philosophic work that celebrates the mundane.

When attending a production at The Catastrophic Theatre, I always know I am in for a journey. My favorite aspect of this group is that each and every one of their productions is a risk-taking endeavor, guaranteeing Houston audiences access to fresh, cutting-edge presentations of theatrical craftsmanship. Their current production, the World Premiere of Mickle Maher's THE PINE was commissioned by The Catastrophic Theatre and funded in part by a grant awarded by The MAP Fund, a program of Creative Capital supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Unfortunately, THE PINE wasn't to my liking, but the opportunity to see something crafted with this company in mind is reason enough for anyone to attend a performance.
