At the Florence Gould Hall, just a two avenues away from The Plaza, my April 17, 2016 morning began. Parents, family, friends, and above all, children were ready to see New York Theatre Ballet's (NYTB) version of Cinderella at 11 AM. Many little girls were dressed to impress as the fairy tale character, while the boys were looking good in their Sunday best. For them, this would be animation come to life.

THE LIBRARY to Play Out of Box Theatre in April

Closing this weekend is Out of Box Theatre's stunning production of Lee Blessing's Two Rooms, a potent political drama that its audiences have called 'intense,' 'tremendous,' and 'passionate.' Atlanta actors Candace Mabry and Olubajo Sonubi star as husband and wife, embroiled in an international hostage crisis. Professor Michael Wells (Sonubi) is taken captive by political terrorists in Beirut, leaving his wife Lainie (Mabry) behind to deal with the emotional trauma and political maneuverings of the government and the media. Also featuring Aretta Baumgartner and Aaron Goodson, and directed by Joel Coady, this production has garnered much success with audiences.

BWW Reviews: Stray Dog Theatre's Riotous THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD

If you're looking at the program for THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, see the name Rupert Holmes (book, music, and lyrics) and are instantly reminded of the fact he wrote and sang the number one hit 'Escape (The Pina Colada Song'), you'll probably be a bit surprised at the production that you're about to watch. But, I guarantee you it will be a very pleasant one, because Holmes takes the tradition of circa 1890's English Music Hall and uses it in delightfully imaginative fashion to craft a vehicle for the unfinished last work of classic author Charles Dickens. It's a kind of play within a play, and in the cozy confines of the Tower Grove Abbey, it's an absolutely perfect fit. It brings the performers right into your lap, and it's so much fun that you can't help but get completely caught up in the merriment. This lively production by Stray Dog Theatre is sure to please, so get your tickets while you can!

BWW Review: New York Theatre Ballets' GOOSE!

New York Theatre Ballet's production of Goose! was one of the offerings of the company's Once Upon a Ballet 2014-2015 series. Goose! is another enchanting jewel in the crown of witty and wonderful ballets by Keith Michael. Goose! brings to life characters from the Mother Goose nursery rhymes. Jack and Jill, Little Bo Peep, Little Boy Blue, Little Miss Muffet, and other favorites kick up their heels in this delightful ballet.

BWW Reviews: New York Theater Ballet's CINDERELLA at Florence Gould Hall

New York Theater Ballet (NTYB) presented Cinderella on February 8, 2015 as one of their innovative one-hour ballets for children. Although NYTB's production moved swiftly along to keep the children's attention, the timeless story of Cinderella still effortlessly shined through.
