Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures in association with Unique Features announced today that the new Broadway musical ELF shattered its previous box office record at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 W 45th St) for the week ending December 19, 2010.

The cast of the hit Broadway show LOMBARDI celebrated the season yesterday, December 19, with a holiday celebration during the Green Bay Packers/New England Patriots game. The company kicked off the evening bowling at the new Bowlmor Lanes in Times Square and ended the night watching the game at Bowlmor's stand-alone sports bar, The Stadium Grill.

Dan Lauria, who stars as the titular role in the hit Broadway play LOMBARDI, will be a guest on Sirius Satellite Radio today.

The Fred Ebb Foundation (Mitchell Bernard, Trustee) in association with the Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) presented the sixth annual Fred Ebb Award for aspiring musical theatre songwriters to Douglas J. Cohen on November 29. The award, named in honor of the late award-winning lyricist Fred Ebb, was presented by David Thompson (The Scottsboro Boys). While football and baseball have been slugging it out for decades for the title of America's Most Popular Sport, there's no doubt that the latter is Broadway's baby, boasting Tony-winners Damn Yankees and Take Me Out.  Aside from inspiring amusing songs for Wonderful Town and High Button Shoes, football's longest Broadway run was the short-lived musical All-American, which featured the unlikely combination of Ray Bolger acting in scenes written by Mel Brooks.  Heck, even basketball (That Championship Season) and rugby (The Changing Room) have fared better on Broadway than football.

On Sunday, November 14, Elf opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Broadway. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the traditional Gypsy Robe ceremony and brings you photo coverage below.

Based on the beloved 2003 New Line Cinema hit, ELF features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan (The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone). ELF is directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Casey Nicholaw (The Drowsy Chaperone, Monty Python's Spamalot). ELF opened on Sunday, November 14th at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street). The production will play a limited engagement for the holiday season through Sunday, January 2nd. The Vince Lombardi Super Bowl trophy, named for the iconic Hall of Fame football coach and title character of the Broadway play LOMBARDI, will be on display in the lower lobby of the Circle in the Square Theatre from Tuesday, November 9 to Friday, November 12 for anyone holding tickets to that day's performance.
