The 33rd annual Helen Hayes Awards will be celebrated at the historicLincoln Theatre at 7:30 pm on May 15, with accomplished actors E. Faye Butler and Lawrence Redmond as hosts. The line-up of award presenters includes artistic leaders from across the Washington region, highlighting the depth and breadth of a theatre community recognized worldwide for the quality and diversity of its work. Following the awards, a roof-raising dance party gets underway at the world-renowned 9:30 Club. Both events honor 236 Helen Hayes Award nominees drawn from 200 eligible productions presented in 2016. Tickets for the combined Awards Ceremony and Dance Party are $275 for premium seating, $150 for balcony seating, and can be purchased online.

Tony Award-nominee David Ives and STC Artistic Director Michael Kahn, the team that created the award-winning French 'trilogy' of The Liar, The Heir Apparent and The Metromaniacs, will unite once more to present a newly revamped version of Ives' The School For Lies at the Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th Street NW) from May 30-July 2, 2017.

Naomi Wallace's searing psychological drama The War Boys, directed by James Will McBride, is entering its final two weeks at Access Theater (380 Broadway, NYC). Performances continue through April 16, 2017.

The Shakespeare Theatre Company's Bard Association presents Shakespeare and the Law, its signature discussion series, on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 7 p.m. at the Lansburgh Theatre (450 7 St., NW). The Shakespeare and the Law series explores in-depth examinations into the roles of lawyers and legal issues in Shakespeare plays and classical theatre pieces.

Jesse Berger (Founding Artistic Director) and the Board of Trustees of Red Bull Theater have announced the Ninth Annual RUNNING OF THE RED BULLS BENEFIT on Monday March 27th, at 6pm, celebrated their 14th Season and honored Oscar Isaac, Olivia Reis, and George Forbes with the 2017 Matador Awards For Excellence in Classical Theater.

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center announces that iconic stage and film actress Judith Light will receive the 17th Monte Cristo Award. An alumna of the O'Neill, Judith first performed at the O'Neill's 1977 National Playwrights Conference.

Naomi Wallace's blistering play, The War Boys, will have its New York premiere at Access Theater (380 Broadway between White & Walker Streets) for a limited four-week engagement with an opening set for Saturday, March 25th at 8PM.

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) presents Macbeth, directed by Tony Award-nominee Liesl Tommy and featuring Jesse J. Perez as Macbeth and Nikkole Salter as Lady Macbeth. The show will run April 25-May 28 at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW).

Broadway and West End star Tam Mutu will star as Archibald Craven in The 5th Avenue Theatre's enchanting Broadway-bound revival of The Secret Garden. Mutu joins a phenomenal cast including Tony Award winner Daisy Eagan, Tony Award nominee Josh Young, Lizzie Klemperer, Charlie Franklin and Sean G. Griffin.

Michael Kahn will retire as artistic director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) in July 2019. A national search for Mr. Kahn's successor will begin in 2017. His successor will be announced in July 2018 and will work closely with Michael to plan the 2019/20 season.

Artistic Director Michael Kahn announced today the Company's 2017-2018 Season. Continuing his commitment to explore the classics from a variety of perspectives, Kahn, now in his 31st year with the Company, has put together a diverse season of renowned plays, including celebrated 20th-century playwrights, a classic musical, a world premiere and, of course, Shakespeare.

The 2017 Helen Hayes Award nominations were announced tonight. A line-up of leading theatre artists announced nominations in 47 categories of artistic excellence. Award recipients will be announced at the Helen Hayes Awards gala event to be held at the Lincoln Theatre on Monday, May 15 with an after-party hosted at Washington's legendary 9:30 Club.
