New York Youth Symphony Launches Fellowship Program

New York Youth Symphony (NYYS), under the guidance of a new three-year strategic plan, is launching a new fellowship program to identify, train, and mentor students from underrepresented communities who wish to prepare for and attend college. Students in their sophomore and junior years of high school accepted into the NYYS orchestra, chamber music, jazz, conducting, and composition programs are eligible to apply for the fellowships which will last one or two years. Awarded fellows will participate in the NYYS program of their choice, including performances, rehearsals, sectionals, master classes and workshops, and receive a $5,000 stipend to offset costs of NYYS fees, private lessons, travel, and instrument maintenance.

FIAF Presents Annie Dorsen's THE GREAT OUTDOORS at 2017 Crossing the Line Festival

Doug Varone and Dancers to Perform at 2017 Jacob's Pillow

New York City's famed Doug Varone and Dancers will perform at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival at the Ted Shawn Theater, 358 George Carter Road, Becket, MA 01223, from August 2-6, 2017 with performances Wednesday-Saturday at 8pm; Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. Bang on a Can to Celebrate Summer at Lincoln Center Festival, MASS MoCA and More

Bang on a Can celebrates summer 2017, and continues its 30th anniversary landmark season, by showcasing the breadth of its adventurous curatorial vision with concerts June-September at three visual art institutions -The Noguchi Museum and the Jewish Museum in New York City, and the Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA - plus a performance by the Bang on a Can All-Stars at the Lincoln Center Festival.

Bang on a Can and the Jewish Museum's 2017-18 concert season, which will focus on pioneering female artists, begins on July 20 with a performance featuring the distinctive and exceptional indie-guitarist Kaki King.

The Crossing presents World Premiere of Michael Gordon's Major New Choral Memoir ANONYMOUS MAN

Anonymous Man is Michael Gordon's first concert-length solo choral work. It was commissioned by The Crossing and written for the choir's 24 voices. Gordon merges subtle rhythmic invention with incredible power in his music, embodying, in the words of The New Yorker's Alex Ross, 'the fury of punk rock, the nervous brilliance of free jazz and the intransigence of classical modernism.'
