A Midsummer Night's Dream, William Shakespeare's popular story of illusive and abiding love, opened Saturday to cheers and a robust crowd at Harlem's Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park. The show, produced by the Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) (Producing Artistic Director, Ty Jones), is directed by CTH Artistic Associate and Oberlin College Professor of Theater and Africana Studies Justin Emeka and runs Tuesdays through Sundays at 7:30 pm through July 20. Performances of the free play, which runs today, July 13-30 (on Tuesdays through Sunday) at 7:30 pm, are made possible by the Ford Foundation.

SIDEBAND to Perform at Museum of the Moving Image, 6/15

Museum of the Moving Image will present a live performance by Sideband, the groundbreaking electronic music ensemble, on Friday, June 15, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. The concert will feature laptops as musical instruments, augmented by wireless networks, multichannel speakers, live 3-D video projections, hacked video game controllers, homemade hardware, traditional instruments, physical movement, pianist Kathy Supove, and much more.

Award-winning actress & director Petronia Paley leads the TWAS Classical Actors of Color as they share the stage with classical actor Michael Early* as Antony and Take Wing And Soar's Producing Artistic Director, Debra Ann Byrd*, as she takes on the role of Egypt's last Queen. The Opening Night Gala on March 17th at 7pm, will honor Councilwoman Inez Dickens.

Ford Theatre Presents FREE, 1/22

Without the aid of mechanical devices, we can only slip the bonds of Earth in our dreams and imaginations. But no one seems to have told that to Marshall 'Free' Gunther. Neo Ensemble Theatre presents the West Coast premiere of FREE by Barbara Lindsay, directed by Wendy Worthington. The second offering in a season of new plays curated by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, FREE opens at [Inside] the Ford on January 22, with pay-what-you-can previews on January 20 and 21.

FREE - A whimsical comedy that explores the boundaries of friendship and gravity. Without the aid of mechanical devices, we can only slip the bonds of Earth in our dreams and imaginations. But no one seems to have told that to Marshall 'Free' Gunther. Free is a floater who has to work at keeping himself tethered to the ground. He wants more than anything to be normal, but best friend Stoney thinks Free's gift is a miracle that everyone should see. When Free decides he would rather clean motel rooms than defy gravity for indifferent audiences, he finds that the gift he doesn't want has touched more lives than he realized.
