CMS's 50th anniversary season will celebrate the 250th birthday of Beethoven with the 2020 edition of the Winter Festival of performances of all sixteen of the master's string quartets. They will be performed in groups corresponding to the composer's early, middle, and late periods, in the order they were composed between 1798 and 1826. Performing the sixteen quartets is a mental, physical, and emotional challenge for the artists, and they are rarely performed as a set. For the CMS Winter Festival the performances will be by the critically-acclaimed Danish String Quartet.

Tippet Rise Art Center is pleased to announce highlights and dates of its fifth anniversary concert season, July 10 through August 29, 2020. The art center, which opened in 2016 and celebrates the union of land, art, architecture, and music, will present seven weeks of concerts featuring an impressive list of artists, many of them making their debuts at Tippet Rise. Casting is set for Studio Theatre's production of Pipeline, playwright Dominique Morisseau's searing drama about the school-to-prison pipeline and a mother desperately trying to keep her son from becoming ensnared in it. The production runs January 15-February 16, 2020 and is directed by Awoye Timpo. Starring are DC theatre favorite Justin Weaks (Studio's Curve of Departure) as high school student Omari and Andrea Harris Smith making her Studio debut as his mother, public school teacher Nya. In its recent People Issue, Washington City Paper's called Weaks a 'standout,' going on to say: 'D.C. theater audiences love Justin Weaks. ...Weaks came to D.C. for a job about four years ago, not expecting to stay. But he kept getting cast in shows, and lucky for local theatergoers, he's still here.'
