Bye Bye Birdie celebrated Opening Night, yesterday evening, Thursday, October 15th at the new Henry Miller's Theatre (124 West 43rd Street). Bye Bye Birdie stars John Stamos, Gina Gershon, Bill Irwin & Nolan Gerard Funk with Jayne Houdyshell, Dee Hoty, Matt Doyle, Jake Evan Schwencke and Alllie Trimm.

Sunday morning, September 13th, Mayor Bloomberg received the endorsement of playwright Neil Simon in front of the Nederlander Theatre, where The Neil Simon Plays are set to open this fall. The Neil Simon Plays are all new productions of Simon's hit plays Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound, directed by David Cromer and starring Laurie Metcalf.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg's effort to reduce traffic congestion in Midtown will be taking another 'big step' as he plans to close several new blocks of Broadway to vehicle traffic through Times Square and Herald Square, a project that would turn sections of the Great White Way into wide reaching pedestrian malls starting on Sunday evening.

Tonight the theater community will kick off The Fantasticks 50th anniversary year with an early curtain of the show (7PM) and a post-performance cocktail reception at The Snapple Center with performances by Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent, Anna in the Tropics, Jack Goes Boating), Rita Gardner (original 1960 production of The Fantasticks, The Cradle Will Rock, The Wedding Singer), Orfeh (Legally Blonde, Footloose), Aaron Lazar (The Light in the Piazza, A Tale of Two Cities, Les Miserables), GrooveLily (Striking 12) and Jill Paice (Curtains, The Woman in White). In addition, The Office of New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will offer a special proclamation declaring Fantasticks Day in New York City.
