The Maltz Jupiter Theatre is kicking off the New Year with a rare four-week run of the sunny and funny musical that took Broadway by storm: Mamma Mia!

There are few things as difficult as penning a follow-up to a beloved classic. That's the challenge that faced the writers of Disney's Mary Poppins Returns, the next-generation sequel to the iconic 1964 film. Fortunately for us all, veteran songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman were more than up to the task, creating a score that seamlessly blends in with our favorite songs of old while producing some new magical moments of its own.

Mary Poppins Returns officially came to cinemas yesterday, December 19. BroadwayWorld was there to celebrate the big day at the New York screening, with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Emily Blunt, and many more stars!

According to Deadline, Mary Poppins Returns brought in an estimated $4.8M for its opening day Wednesday, despite industry midday projections that had the film in the $7M-$8M vicinity.

59E59 Theaters welcomes the NYC premiere of SWITZERLAND written by Joanna Murray-Smith and directed by Dan Foster. Produced by Hudson Stage Company,SWITZERLAND begins performances on Thursday, February 7 for a limited engagement through Sunday, March 3.

Ahead of Mary Poppins Returns coming out in UK cinema's on December 21st reporter Jamie Body attended the European premiere at the Royal Albert Hall to chat to some of the cast and creatives behind the sequel to one of Disney's most popular films.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced today that Golden Globe winner and four-time nominee Jeff Bridges will be honored with the 2019 Cecil B. deMille Award at the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Award-winning actor Emily Blunt, who is already earning praise for her work in "Mary Poppins Returns," says she's up for doing a sequel, in an interview with Anthony Mason for CBS SUNDAY MORNING to be broadcast Sunday, Dec. 16(9:00 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The 30th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) will present Olivia Colman with the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress for The Favourite at its annual Film Awards Gala. The award will be presented by her co-star in the film Emma Stone. The Film Awards Gala, hosted by Mary Hart and Entertainment Tonight, and presented by American Express, will be held on Thursday, January 3 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The Festival runs January 3-14.
