Voices Inside/Out Names 2016 Playwright in Residence

Voices Inside/Out in its sixth consecutive year, has awarded its one week playwrighting residency to Brooklyn writer Katharine Clark Gray. Katharine will travel to Danville, Kentucky this summer to teach a master class to the inmates at a local prison who participate in Voices Inside. Voices Inside is a year round playwrighting-in-prison organization founded by Robby Henson, filmmaker and Artistic Director of Pioneer Playhouse; Elizabeth Orndorff, playwright; and Curt Tofteland, founder of Shakespeare Behind Bars.
2016 Downtown Urban Arts Festival to Run 3/4-4/2

Now in its 14th year, the Downtown Urban Arts Festival (DUTF) is becoming New York's premiere winter/spring theatre event showcasing independent theatre artists. The month-long festival, produced by Creative Ammo, Inc., provides writers and performance artists from America's burgeoning multicultural landscape the opportunity to share their stories that interpret our history and our times.
DUTF Sets 2016 Season

Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF) announced its 14th Annual Season today which will feature 19 productions from March 8 to April 2, 2016. The season includes 17 new theatrical works to be presented at Here's Dorothy B. Williams Theatre and two solo works, Joe Gulla's The Bronx Queen and Ella Turenne's Love, Locs & Liberation, at Joe's Pub at The Public. The festival kicks off with a special performance by Corey Glover, acclaimed actor and two-time Grammy award-winning lead singer of the band Living Colour, on March 4 at Joe's Pub.

Barefoot Theatre Company celebrated the 2015 Vassallo Awards with a Spring Gala at the American Ballroom Theater in Manhattan. The ceremony, hosted by VH1's Ellie Lee, honored artistic achievement as well as mentorship and educational outreach to the younger generation of artists in memory of Ed Vassallo. Vassallo's career spanned 20 years and included work producing for the LAByrinth Theatre Company and volunteering with the 52nd Street Project.
SUPERMEN Takes Top Prize at DUTF

Supermen, written by Brooklyn-based Adam Esquenazi Douglas, won Best Play at the 13th Annual Season of the Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF). The festival ran from May 13-30, 2015 at HERE Mainstage in SoHo, NYC and featured 17 plays written by some of America's best emerging writers and theatrical visionaries from California to New York.

Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF) has chosen 28 diverse finalists for its 13th Annual season to run on the Mainstage at HERE in SoHo from May 13-30, 2015.
