Voices Inside/Out in its sixth consecutive year, has awarded its one week playwrighting residency to Brooklyn writer Katharine Clark Gray. Katharine will travel to Danville, Kentucky this summer to teach a master class to the inmates at a local prison who participate in Voices Inside. Voices Inside is a year round playwrighting-in-prison organization founded by Robby Henson, filmmaker and Artistic Director of Pioneer Playhouse; Elizabeth Orndorff, playwright; and Curt Tofteland, founder of Shakespeare Behind Bars.

Past recipients include playwrights Robert Attenweiler (2015), Crystal Skillman (2014), Mel Nieves (2013), Holly Hepp- Galvàn (2012) and Mac Rogers (2011).

Voices Inside/Out is dedicated to the artistic exchange between theatre makers from inside and outside of prison walls. VIO presents an evening of inmate-authored plays in New York City and sponsors a playwriting residency for a noted playwright from the outside at a medium security prison in Kentucky.
