The new Broadway musical An American in Paris is now in previews and just opened last night, April 12, 2015 at the Palace Theatre (Broadway at 47th Street). An American In Paris is directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. Inspired by the Academy-Award winning film, An American In Paris brings this classic tale to Broadway for the first time with music and lyrics by George Gershwinand Ira Gershwin and a book by Tony nominee and Pulitzer Prize finalist Craig Lucas. New York City Ballet principal dancer Tiler Peck will step into the role of 'Ivy Smith' in the new Broadway revival of On The Town this March for six performances only, while her fellow New York City Ballet principal dancer, and sister-in law, Megan Fairchild is on vacation. Peck will play the role at the following performances: March 3rd at 7pm, March 4th at 2pm and 8pm, March 14th at 2pm and 8pm, and March 15th at 3pm.
The new Broadway revival of On The Town was recorded in November 2014 for a two-disc cast album to be released by PS Classics. On The Town, which features a book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, music by Leonard Bernstein, and is based on an idea by Jerome Robbins, is currently running at Broadway's Lyric Theatre (213 W 42nd St, New York, NY 10036). The album is out today, March 3, at www.PSClassics.com.
The new Broadway revival of On The Town welcomed 'SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE' winner and 'America's Favorite Dancer' Ricky Ubeda to the cast last night, February 27, 2015 for a limited engagement through April 26, 2015. Ubeda received the opportunity to join the cast as part of his prize for winning SYTYCD in September 2014.
