This spring, Arden Theatre Company will transform the F. Otto Haas stage into the sweltering streets of the New Orleans French Quarter.  Tennessee Williams' masterpiece A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE depicts a story of love, lust, and the memories we leave behind. The production, directed by Arden Artistic Director Terry Nolen, plays March 12 through April 12, 2020.  Reviewing press are invited to the 7PM performance on March 18.

Lantern Theater Company continues its 2019/20 season with the Philadelphia premiere of The Last Match, a funny and moving drama from award-winning playwright Anna Ziegler. Lantern resident director M. Craig Getting directs a cast that includes Joanna Liao, Scott Miller, Lee Minora, and Matteo Scammell. Theater critics and members of the press are invited to request press comps for opening night on Wednesday, November 13 at 7 p.m. by contacting Anne Shuff at ashuff@lanterntheater.org. The Drama League Announces Its 2019 Directors-In-Residence

The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director) has announced the theater directors chosen to develop new plays and musicals as part of the 2019 Drama League Artist Residency Program. Public work-in-progress presentations of each residency will be held periodically throughout the year at The Drama League Theater Center, 32 Avenue of the Americas, in Tribeca. The production will kick-off the first produced season under new Producing Artistic Director Paige Price. Justin Emeka makes his Philadelphia debut directing a cast filled with local stars and Barrymore Award winners who have extensive theatre, film and television credits. Sweat will run from October 12 to November 4, 2018 at Philadelphia Theatre Company's stage at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, 480 S. Broad Street. Opening Night is Wednesday, October 17th at 7:00pm. I spent an evening and afternoon taking in a few offerings at this year's far more conveniently located Capital Fringe festival in Southwest DC. International Affairs and history nerd that I am, I took in a performance of BLACK CONFEDERATES and the exceptional THE BODY OF A WOMAN AS A BATTLEFIELD IN THE BOSNIAN WAR. I threw in a little musicalized mythology for good measure (Jo Williamson's METAMORPHOSE) as well as an avant-garde and wholly modern dance-theater piece, O MONSTERS, presented by Philadelphia's experimental performance ensemble New Paradise Laboratories.
