Rec Room Presents PUT YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER

HURRICANE DIANE Comes to Rec Room Arts in May

Rec Room Arts will present the Houston premiere of Hurricane Diane, Madeleine George's (Hulu's Only Murders in the Building) Obie Award-winning play that turns the Greek god Dionysus into Diane, a lesbian permaculture gardener whose secret mission is to save the planet from the ravages of climate change. Lily Wolff (Alley Theatre) will direct the production.

DANCE NATION Announced At Rec Room

Rec Room Arts will begin the 2022 season with the Houston premiere of Dance Nation, Clare Barron's award-winning play about pre-teen competitive dancers and the burden of adolescence. Sophia Watt will direct the production, with choreography by Skye Bronfenbrenner. Preview performances begin January 20, with an official opening on Saturday, January 22. Performances will run through February 5.

Despite funding cuts, bureaucrats run amok, apathy, and a rodent infestation, a small, multiracial group of teachers launch a last-minute effort to save the school, and put their careers, futures, and safety in the hands of a fast-talking administrator who may be in way over his head. The tenuous situation also raises fears and anxieties among students and within the volcanic neighborhood that surrounds the school.

Rec Room Arts launches into their third year with a powerhouse of a season that boldly tackles several of America's most divisive issues: guns, education, and race. The lineup, consisting exclusively of regional premieres and world premiere adaptations, includes a regional premiere of EXIT STRATEGY by Ike Holter, award-winning playwright of last year's hit play SENDER; a remount of Houston's newest, immersive holiday tradition, HANSEL AND GRETEL; a regional premiere of ON THE EXHALE by Martin Zimmerman; a regional premiere of THE ROYALE by Marco Ramirez; and a world premiere adaptation of Georg Buchner's groundbreaking 19th century play, WOYZECK.

WRITING OUR WORLD Writes Women Into Center Stage

Writing Our World, a 10 minute play reading series devoted entirely to works by women of color and directed by women of color, is having its inaugural show on Sunday, April 29th at 7pm at Rec Room. The reading series is the brainchild of two women, Marissa Castillo and Candice D'Meza, who met as castmates in Main Street Theater's production "Men on Boats". The reading series is produced in partnership with Rec Room Arts Artist Residency Program.

BLESSED THIEVES at Rec Room Gives Houstonians A Chance To Remove Their Masks

2018 Alley ALL NEW FESTIVAL Begins This Saturday

The Alley Theatre's Alley All New Festival, January 20-28, 2018, features six playwrights and more than 30 actors from the Alley and around the country who will be presenting new work through a series of readings and workshop performances. In addition to Alley Resident Company members, many artists have existing connections to the Alley and some are making their Alley debut. The start of the festival will celebrate the reopening of the Neuhaus Theatre. Rec Room Arts Announces Inaugural Residency Festival Line-Up

In July 2017, Rec Room Arts was one of 20 arts organizations in Houston to be awarded a $10,000 FY2018 Project Grant through Houston Arts Alliance and the City of Houston for their inaugural Residency Festival, and the project is now coming to fruition. The Artist Residency Program provides performance opportunities, along with artistic and business-related mentorship and education for one calendar year. In February and March, each resident will be given two weeks of rehearsal time, culminating in a weekend of performance dates that are open to the public.

Interactive Kids Show GARBAGE ISLAND 4.0 Pushes Opening Due to Hurricane Harvey

Rec Room's new episode of the kids interactive sketch comedy show, GARBAGE ISLAND 4.0, has been postponed due to Hurricane Harvey. The new opening date will be Today, September 23rd, for a run through October 7th, with shows at 10:30am and 1 pm.
