Birdhouses By George Clinton Added To Exhibition & New Benefit Auction Live Now

This week, Brooklyn Botanic Garden unveils two new birdhouses by legendary artist George Clinton made exclusively for its For the Birds exhibition. Clinton, the visual artist and musician who revolutionized music and performance in the '70s and '80s through the pioneering work of Parliament-Funkadelic, began painting birdhouses during the pandemic when he ran out of canvases to work on. Clinton's garden in Florida eventually filled with these birdhouses and become a “funk village” for the birds. This summer, Clinton created two new birdhouses for the Garden and For the Birds. Visitors can see the two new birdhouses by Clinton now on BBG's Magnolia Plaza.

Artistic Director and Producer, presents Antigona, featuring Soledad Barrio, who is not only principal dancer but choreographer and costume designer, at the West Park Presbetarian Church, at west 86th St. and Amsterdam. This church has opened its house to some theater pieces, proclaiming, 'Noche's Antigona is a perfect example of how we like our house to be a place where dreams can come true.' The high church ceiling lent itself to creating an enormous sound, with the participation of both musicians and Flamenco dancers.

From time immemorial art has functioned as a means to convince us of the existence of something we can't see. The artist has the power to circumvent verbal communication and fix images in the brain which the mind tends to accept as reality. Since the 1960s there have been artists who used their work to confront environmental issues. Now, as the scientific evidence of climate change is corroborated by increased occurrence of extreme natural disasters in the form of hurricanes, volcanic activity, tidal waves and cyclones, artists are responding in their artwork with a heightened sense of urgency. “Seeing is Believing” is an exploration of the ways some artists have confronted this challenge in order to foster crucial changes in consciousness and in human behavior.
