Beginning July 12 and through August 26, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will host the 32nd annual Seaside Summer Concert Series at Asser Levy/Seaside Park and the 28th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series at Wingate Field in Crown Heights/Central Brooklyn (full concert lineups below).
Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) Board Chair Anthony W. Crowell announced today that Linda E. Johnson will assume the role of Interim Executive Director effective July 1, 2010. In her role, Johnson will be responsible for the overall executive management and day-to-day operations of the nation's fifth largest public library system, with 60 locations across the Borough.
Today, Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe joined City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, and City Council Members Melissa Mark-Viverito and Sara Gonzalez, at the citywide pool opening preview in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Children from P.S. 169 leapt into the pool with the first splash of the season. Also in attendance were synchronized swimmers The Harlem Honey Bears, and musical performers The Sunset Park Chinese Dancers. Attendees were treated to a barbecue lunch, sponsored by Western Beef and Honest Tea.

Kerrigan has been handing out donated dresses since 2001, and this is the first time the event has been held in her home borough of Brooklyn. Kerrigan expects more than 1,700 girls from 35 Brooklyn schools and beyond to attend.
