IMJS: Japanese Cultural Heritage Initiatives, Columbia University, continues to spotlight amazing treasures from Japan. This year, the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1968, we are pleased to present to fellow New Yorkers an evening of music, TOTALLY TOSHIKO, in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on November 27, 2018 at 8:00 PM, celebrating beloved jazz trailblazer, pioneer composer, arranger, big-band leader, and pianist Toshiko Akiyoshi in her 88th year, a milestone in time (called beiju [pronounced bay-joo] in Japan) that calls for honoring the creative achievements of one who has reached that age.

Showtime Management today announced that British singer-songwriter and guitarist James Morrison will perform in South Africa for the first time, early next year. Brought to you by 5FM Legends the two-city concert tour begins at Montecasino's Teatro with 8pm concerts on Tuesday, 22 January and Wednesday, 23 January thereafter moving to Cape Town's Kirstenbosch Garden for one concert only at 7pm on Saturday, 26 January 2019. Hallmark Movies & Mysteries unveils its slate of original premieres during its highly anticipated 'Miracles of Christmas' holiday programming event, featuring an impressive slate of 14 new, original holiday movies airing in November and December. These holiday movies are all compelling, new dramas that will inspire the true meaning and miracles of Christmas. The heartfelt and inspiring holiday celebration begins Friday, October 26 12 pm ET/PT.

The one and only Cher will be releasing Dancing Queen, a new album of all Abba hits on September 28, officially announced today by Warner Bros. Records. Those who pre-order the new album will immediately receive Cher's rendition of the song “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight).” 

Folks Operetta's 2018 season kicks off with Emmerich Kalman's operetta The Csardas Princess, July 7 - 22, playing at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. The Csardas Princess features the book written by Leo Stein and Bela Jenbach with music by Emmerich Kalman and an English translation by Hersh Glagov and Gerald Frantzen. The Folks Operetta version is directed by Gerald Frantzen and conducted by Mark Taylor. Opening night is Saturday, July 7 at 7:30 p.m. The regular performance schedule is Thursdays - Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $40 for adults, $35 for seniors (65 years and older) and $25 for students (with student ID).

In its ongoing efforts to recognize, support and raise awareness about the huge impact of cinema beyond the screen, the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) has partnered with Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson to present the inaugural AAFCA Day at City Hall on April 27 celebrating and honoring productions that put a spotlight on Los Angeles life highlighting its residents and locations through complex and elevated depictions. With that mission at the forefront, the inaugural AAFCA Day at City Hall will celebrate “Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G.,” the groundbreaking USA limited series exploring the decade-plus investigation into the real-life homicides of the iconic rappers, as its first honoree. The “Unsolved” collaborators and key cast will gather before a fully assembled City Council on April 27 for a formal proclamation and reception as they are saluted as the very first honorees of AAFCA Day at City Hall. Harris-Dawson and AAFCA co-founder and president Gil Robertson, who jointly spearheaded this effort, will be on hand, along with other special guests.

Folks Operetta is proud to announce its 2018 season and a new fundraising campaign, The Korngold Initiative. All of these projects are part of their new Reclaimed Voices Series, which focuses on recovering and reviving the lost music of the Jewish composers of the Second World War. 

Glasgow rockers HEAVY PETTIN' have announced UK tour dates in October 2018 with Punky Meadows & Frank Dimino of ANGEL on their first ever UK tour. Heavy Pettin' will also be doing extra headline shows in Glasgow and Milton Keynes.

What better way to celebrate this exciting milestone than with a special family concert! Music Together All Jazzed Up! will be held at Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway at 95th Street on Sunday, March 18th at 5:30pm. Families with children of all ages are welcome.
